I posted my set on my artist's forum. Here is a link
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-71073.html
Thanks to Phobos and Jan for organizing this. It was a great event. All of the music was excellent, IMHO.
I was all set to play the guitar but I never got around to it. _________________ --Howard

Despite a hectic start due to IP port issues with the chat at the start of the set, it turned out OK. I improvised another set June 27, 5 days later and without barking dogs, also attached. I have a lot of listening to do.
Thanks, PHOBoS and all the admins and performers. Have a great summer, or winter south of the big old equator!
EDIT: The photo is upside-down in the preview, but not when you click it. Not sure how to fix. It comes up OK in Photoshop & also Preview.

OK, I finally listened to all of the sets posted... cool stuff! Thanks everyone for playing and sharing the recordings.
Kevin / kkissinger : Those percussive sounds starting around 4 minutes in... are they synthesized or samples?
Jan / Blue Hell : Are the voices synthesized or samples?
.: james (synthesized or sampled) :. |

Synthesized .. but at the detail level things are a bit blurry, the synthesizer uses short audio files for plosives like k, p, t etc. .. at least eSpeak does so (the voices I used were eSpeak's) but one could also reason that vowel formants are obtained from samples where a later reconstruction takes place trough a model ... and so ... sampled
But anyway, I've made wrappers around the Windows Speech API voices and the eSpeak voices so I can use those in patches .. not 100% real time tho, it compiles a text upfront into WAV format and uses those synthesized samples for playback.
Hmm .. how could I make it even more confusing .. I'll stop there _________________ Jan

All the percussive sounds are from the "Mega Percussive Synthesizer" modules on the modular.
There is one exception: the ride-cymbal sound at the end of the set is a sample from the Kurzweil K2600 synthesizer.
Thanks for asking! _________________ -- Kevin

but now I know your secret; you have more than 1 lavalamp!
I really like the note combinations you choose for the sequences, just played around with a couple of them myself.
Also those small bends in the last section are lovely. |
Glad you enjoyed the set, PHOBoS! The lavalamps make ALL the difference. _________________ -- Kevin

Yeah, lavalamps... maybe that's what's holding me back in participating in one of these solstice/equinox events. I need to get some!
Kevin : I checked out a demo video of that Mega Percussive Synth module and it sounds pretty cool. The sounds in your piece that I mentioned reminded me of hand claps, but weird. I dig it. Anyway, very nice set!
Jan : Hahaha, I'm sorry I asked! I'm so confused! But anyway, synthesized or sampled, it's not really important. I just find circuits that sound voice-like fascinating. I liked the sort of clackity-clackity rhythm they have at one point. Cool set.
