Did anyone ever do an emulation of the Yamaha DX100/27's 'Solid Bass' patch on the NM1?

I wasn't that interested in getting the NM to sound like a Minimoog (thought it was fun sometimes)- but imitating a DX was something the Nord 1 was always good at - as Wout Blommers once demonstrated (nice one Wout!! ;) )

I tried doing my own once and I got nowhere (but then FM foxes the hell out of me anyway)

Also on the 100 and 27 the values operate in a weird fashion. Some parameters are between 0-31 others are 0-15 and others 0-99 !!!

I've got the parameters here if anyone wants to see them- although I think it is better to know what the original sounded like to get a good idea.

Tom, can't you use a patch from the huge collection of dx7 patches (the xmass patches) as a template and then stuff in the numbers you have ?

That's how the conversion software worked anyway ... if I remeber correctly. I think there were some different templates for the various operator configurations, so you might have to search a bit or even might have to kick out some operators - wasn't the dx100 a 4 operater synth ?

heh- I can tell you don't have kids Jan?!

I was being lazy- like usual, wanting someone else to do all the hard work!!

Yep the DX100 is a four operator synth. I used to have one, but sold it because it wasn't being used.

fwiw, it could do many other great sounds, pads and effects- as well as bass sounds. A bit noisy mind, but I kinda liked that :) That gave it personality.

Kids ... Shocked ... I hope not ... well noone is claiming any money, so I guess that means I'm alright ...

Lazy ... Ok, hope someone will do the work for you then, but I don't quite get the relation between laziness and havings kids. I'd understand tiredness, being exhausted even .. and apart from that I'm pretty lazy myself and ... right, I go in circles now, can't do that.

Not really no. I don't own a G2.

I suppose one could 'port' it?

No offence, but isn't it a bit crazy using a £1300 synth to produce a bass sound that came from a 'toy' keyboard Confused Shocked Laughing

Hi v-un-v,
Porting it would be a lot of work, don't know if anyone will.
And yeah, it seems odd to make a sound from that 'toy' but that way i can keep my studio compact and it's also a nice pratice for me to get into the G2 Wink

( I have noted the dates on these posts, but this may still help someone...)

I did a Latelybass a while back which I have just ported to G2, I've attached the NM patch and the pch2 is in the classic forum.
AFAIK, Solidbass was another name for the Latelybass on different yammy 4ops.

RE: Toy synth emulation - v-un-v

For me it's an education, and it constantly trains ones ear. Though I have most of the synth I emulate, if I need to double up on sounds, or use that sound as a basis for expansion/experimentation - I'll try and cop it.
Plus, historically many "toy" instruments have (inadvertantly in some cases) produced some *killer* sounds, even the 10 bit dodgy-converter grittiness of the lowly FB01 has proved to be an asset, which is v hard to get right on the softsnths or modulars. (but fun trying, and you can then use it on other sounds).
