Subject description: Using the G2 as a sequencer for external synths
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hello,

I am trying to control my Macbeth M3X synth via the midi output of a Clavia G2 Engine. I would like to use the G2 Engine as an external sequencer and employ the huge (sequencing and modulation) possibilities of the G2 the control the M3X. Due to inexperience I can't get it to work properly. I have used a very basic sequencer patch (please see picture) from the manual to start with, and I have set the midi channel on both devices on 16: I have done this on my M3X with is built-in Kenton and on my G2 (synth settings, midi send + CtrlSend module channel on 16), but it doesn't work. I hope someone here could give me some advice concerning what I might be forgetting or doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

Best wishes, Z.

Basically this should just work, can you post the actual patch you work on?

Blue Hell thank you for your reply! Here is the actual (basic) patch I used as a starting point. The midi receive channel of the Macbeth M3X is set to 16.

The patch should be OK ... in Synth Settings (in the NM editor) you have checkboxes for Controllers one for Receive and one for Send, you checked those?

your patch doesn't appear to be sending any gate information

The patch uses a CTRL send module, which will send whenever the input value changes.

Yes (please see attachment). If the settings of the G2 are correct, then it must be the Macebth M3X I guess

Looks good to me, one thing you can try ... you use midi channel 16 which also is the global channel, maybe try to turn global off, for a test at least (off = 16 + 1).

OK, I always use a Note Send module for external sequencing, it needs a gate

Here's a sequencer I setup for external control of my SE-1

I had to put an Env module in to extend the gate signal as the standard one was too short

Laughing which makes sense if you want to play notes ... I assumed the control send module to be intentional here, but maybe that was wrong.

Yup.

True, I just sort of assumed that's what the original poster meant, but I may be wrong Wink

modulator_esp, thank you very much for your patch! I hooked an LFO into the clock input of the level sequencer and everything works just fine now! Thanks for all the help!

Cool

obviously there are a few extra bits in there like the key quantise and offsets you might not need, but it's a start

Another option, although expesive (but probably more satisfying)..
