Hello,

First of all I'm new at this form. My name is Olav Brouwers and love the softer deeper styles in electronic danc)music.

My problem is as following:

I have my Nord Lead 2x connected through an EMU 0404 card to cubase sx3. Right now if I draw a midi part (in a midi channel) and sent this part to my nordlead in unison mode, I have a normal fat unison sound.
If I record this sound to an audio channel and listen to it after recording, the audio channel doesn't include the unison mode. In other words the sound isn't fat and sounds like the sound without activation of the unison mode Crying or Very sad

Because my EMU 0404 has only one stereo audio input I haven't connected al 4 (A,B,C,D) outputs of my nord sepperately, but only A and B as stereo output.

Does anybody have an explanation/solution for my problem because as you probably agree, without unison my nord isn't worth 20% of it's possibilities.

Thank you very much in advance!

Olav

Olav, I thank you from the bottom of my heart...
I just found out this strange behavior a couple of weeks ago.
I was working with a NordLead2 (not X) and the Unison detuning, not the stereo effect, was gone.
I checked in different recording tools, like Sound Forge, and the effect was gone.

Is the stereo effect also gone?
I mostly use only the stereo and not the detuneing (Unison = 1), so I never realized it before...

Still, I don't think it's a NordLead problem, but how digital recording works...

Hello Wout,

Thank you very much for your fast repply!

I don't know if the stereo effect is also gone. I have to check this later onand will come back on this.

May I conclude from your reaction that if it is a problem of digital recording, that I can't do anything about it in Cubase SX3? Because if so, my nordlead won't be of that much use because the unison mode is the strength of the synth in my opinion.

By the way pretty much users have a nordlead in combination with cubase. How can it be that I've never read anything about this problem before on any forum???

Well I,ve asked this question on the famous dutch forum already but nobody was familier with this problem.

I think it's really strange that I have the correct sound if sending the midi messages to the nordlead within cubase. One should think that cubase records the sound one-one-one. The only conclusion that can be made is indeed that something goes wrong in the recording proces.

The only possitive thing for me about this is I've discovered a "problem" the (dutch) clavia expert is also struggeling with Laughing Quit an honour...

I just tried the NordLead3, which has a knob to set the amount of Unison. Although the Unison is more audible, it's less then the synth sound itself.

Found the answer!

Both ears are not the same, specially when using headphones.
If the plugs are not in the right channels (left-right) anywhere in the play back routing, it sounds different. Try to swap the two cables. It works over here!
