Hi together.
I spent some time building myself an analog dynamics unit (and therefor haven´t been around here much...). It uses a diode and a pentode VCA that can be switched to compress or expand, has lots of routing choices for audio and cv, independant filtering for audio and sidechain, sidechain clipping and a mixer to add or substract different signals.
Attack and Release can be set independant for each VCA with linear or expotential responce. Timing can be adjusted down to 0. Just wondering what you think of the sounds. It´s more an effects unit than those compressors you´re not supposed to "hear".
So lots of pumping and distortion is possible. Works best on drums...
the sample "stereo" uses the independant outs of the two vcas and a mixing desc. Filter+Time has some sounds using the signal filter and distortion with very short timing constants.
They all show a dry loop first, followed by some processed samples.
add-substract conists of the original, than the processed signal, than the two added, than the two substracted.

Sorry, no shematics, but maybe i should draw some. Hope i remember the parts i used. Guess i don´t work very professionally...
But the functions i described is basically what is going on, so of course any vca and filters can be used.

Hey Zipzap that sounds like what I would call "compressed to buggery" so backs to the wall eh! I think you have a wonderful unit there and if you can find the time to draw and at some time post the schematic, I for one would be very grateful.

I wold love to see how you did this... a diode and pentode VCA??? I have seen Diode VCA and I have seen Pentode VCA... are you combining the two???

In any case, these sounds are really cool!

Neat! That is quite the sound mangler! What sort of power supplies are involved?
