I am not building one but it sure looks interesting to me. The MIDI controlled dual DCO topology, using a processor not seen very much around these parts, is refreshing to see. I would like to see more of this project as you go through the build.

Nice !
Very Happy

I just got the midi interface together and working today. I had a bad 2n3904 Fairchild tranny from mouser that had me stumped for a while. 2nd bad batch of Fairchild trannies I got! Mad

Elby is very good about responding to emails. Just wanted to toss that in.

.

Unusual to get bad transistors but sure, it can stump you for a bit since it is very unexpected Shocked

I would really like to hear some sounds from this synthesizer when your done. I have been tossing around lots of ideas of my own design but am torn between using a fast Microcontroller or using an FPGA for my oscillators. I could also use a hybrid design and use an MCU for control, interfacing, and MIDI and use the FPGA for multiple oscillators.

This is a cool project your working on. Cool

Also, good to know Elby has good customer service to Wink

Does look interesting, indeed!

Weird -- I just looked at the Glide circuit Elby have for the Wasp -- its a 4046 PLL. Hmm, fun.

I would love to build one of these. The sound should be insane.
Unfortunately it's too expensive and difficult for me right now.

Would like to see some of your progress Very Happy

After a long brake im back to building it. I dont think this jpeg will show up to good but it will give an idea of the layout.
I think I may build a case with keyboard like the minimoog style look for it.

It draws 120 mWatts.

Man, I have never heard a Wasp filter in person, and this dual filter is the cats azz.... IT SOUND AMAZING!!

Im still working out a few little bugs but its going good. Now lets tackle this filter 3.....

Looks messy indeed, but i guess thats hard to avoid considering the amount of pots you have. No problems on the PCB front?

I would be interested to know how much money you spent on parts.

Good luck with the rest if the wiring Very Happy

I think I have about $350 US dollars in parts. And about 80hours so far Wink

There are a few things that need tweeking on the PCB but nothing to difficult.

There's a typo on the VCA ENV generator. Just to let you know before you spend money getting it printed.

Well... a few things, there is a bit of processor noise? (maybe) in the output, nothing horrible but you can hear it a bit at times depending on the filter setting. It can be eq'ed out to an extent.

Then VCF 3 if not working right. mostly caused but the circuit only getting 5 volts. Not sure how im going to get around this one... maybe leave it out all together?

then the LFO does not modulate the pitch very smoothly. Maybe its just the character of this synth.. yah, thats it Wink

Thanks Ypsi,

Sounds tempting, but i don't have a bundle of cash right now and need to order parts for my MB808 first.

I'm sure there are more people interested in this project. Maybe selling it as a complete kit (with PCB)?

cheers.

hear is the noise issue We're working on right now... I have some capacitors to try in the circuit (when I get them from mouser). I hope they can clear up the noise.... but I think it is bleed through from the Pulse (from the m16c microprocessor) that controls the DCO's because you can hear it track as I move up and down the keyboard.
