Gourd water drums played in my sink. The recording is done on a Zoom H2 and uploaded here to 320k mp3.
I am playing with a particular drag to the rhythm through a lot of the recordings because I was trying to coax different sounds out of the drums a bit. When struck just right, the smaller gourds can change pitch in the water. You can hear that some in the recordings. These are here to use, so please chop, shred, stretch, and mangle them however you like.

nice!

One thing I didnt get ... you glue the halves together after hollowing them out or do you just float one half of the gourd in water?

Very nice, I really like the sound of those things Very Happy
So do they float on top of the water or rest on the bottom of the sink?
(I wonder what it would sound like with jell-o or cornstarch)

Thanks PHOBoS
Yeah they float on the top of the water. You bring some interesting ideas... indeed it would be interesting to hear the differences in different liquids.

One of the most unique aspects of the drums is utilizing the water to change the pitch. If struck just right, you can make the gourd "dip" in to the water, which will change the fundamental pitch. It's kinda difficult , but cool when you achieve it. I need to get these things into the river for a session before its not hot anymore. Very Happy
