PHOBoS' Yellow Case PWM lunetta (for lack of a better name) Subject description: schematics and soundbites |
|
|
This project started out with a modified version of Tim Escobedo's PWM circuit. I had allready added a 4040 divider to it and
to make some more use of it as a standalone instrument I decided to add a VCO and R2R. But instead of a standard R2R, I used
inventor's tunable rnr network. I added some XOR's on the inputs as buffers which can also invert the signal.
After I heard jcintheus' excellent 21st Century Schiziod Mess I decided to put in a 4051/4017 melody generator* aswell. And to
be able to make some more use of it I also added 3 oscillators made with a 40106.
And to top it all of I put in a stereo mixer with 2 channels that have dedicated inputs that can be selected with a switch,
and 3 'free' channels. All 5 channels have level and panning control. The original PWM input signal can also be mixed in and
there is a feedback loop from the output of the mixer back to the input of the PWM circuit. I used a simple FET mixer to add both
signals to that circuit.

*the 404/4051 is wired up differently for easier PCB wiring, but it works just the same.

Some parts cut from a longer session. The first one is without any external input source but with a delay added in a feedback loop.
For the other parts I used my "Super Concert" keyboard.

What a great looking and sounding machine.
I like taking Tim Escobedo's lo fi circuits and bread boarding them or parts of them for lunetta use. _________________ Zontar Prevails! |

Sounds great - as good as it looks - another triumph! I'll have another look at the schematics to try and work out what's going on.
As I said before, I'm trying to clear my breadboards by actually building stuff at the moment. Currently, I'm building a simple mixer (YAWN) which worked perfectly on the breadboard, but my hard-wired version is (almost) dead on the left channel . It'll be a simple cock-up, but I'm too tired to sort it out now (and I've had two power cuts today, which haven't helped).
When I've got that out of the way, I'm going to commit some of my lunetta experiments to perf, probably as a mini-lunetta at first. If that goes well, I'll do something more modularish. Anyway, eventually I'll have something worth posting...
Keep up the good work,
Gary |
