Nord G1 Patch Archives? |
 |
|
Hi all,
I'm new here. Have a few questions. I'm just about to purchase a nord modular. Where can i download loads of patches, (really cool fm ones preferably, as i write psy-trance). Also is there a nord 1+2 emulator synth available. if so where can i get it.
Lastly, which is the better one to go for, g2 or g1, i'm sure the g1 has more patches available. i think the sound is better for what i do, as in it has the raw sound that the nord 1 has. I just love it's filters, never really like the nord 3 for the music i do, ended up selling it.
Also will it work with mac 0sx tiger 10.4.6 and logic 7.2. i heard there is beta version
Anyway thanks for you're time and i'd be very grateful for pointing me in the right direction.
Nice one

NM1 archives http://nm-archives.electro-music.com
G2 patches: http://electro-music.com/g2paches.php
IMHO, the G2's sound is determined mostly by the patch. The G2 is a generation in technology beyond the NM1, but both are powerful.
If you are under the impression that you can download a bunch of patches from the archives and use them you are only partially correct. In order to get the most out of these instruments, you need to develop your own patches. You can use patches from the archives to give you ideas and get you started, but the Nord Modulars are patchers' machines, like real analog modulars. _________________ --Howard

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I know all i want is starting points, i'm buying this because i want to get in the modular. But hey, i'm new so it's gonna take some time to get the hang of it. some good patches is a goos starting point.
Has anyone Created a nord lead 2 or nord lead 1 synth with the modular?
Thanks again

There are many lead synth patches for both the NM1 and the G2. I'm not sure someone has tried to create a virtual Nord Lead 2 or 3.
I've never used a Nord Lead for much than just a few minutes, but I'd think that a big part of it is the playability of the keyboard with the Clavia mod wheel and pitch stick. If you are interested in this kind of thing the the G2X will be a great choice. _________________ --Howard

Also check clavia's site:
http://clavia.se/downloads/sounds/nordmodular.htm
Scroll to where it says " V2.1 converted Nord Lead 2 Patches 990112"
They all have the same module layout which takes about 48%, giving 8 notes on an unexpanded modular.
How accurate they are to the actual sound, I don't know.

Hi,
Thanks for the info geof. I was wondering is it possible to expand the nord modular, so you can upgrade the ram for example. Just wondering what can be upgraded.

There was a DSP expansion board which doubled polyphony (from 4 DSPs to
But that's it. I saw some people claiming memory expansion, but they were confused. Early Nord Mods could only hold 100 sounds, but a later OS upgrade increased that to the neighborhood of 1000.

The author is Clavia.
The project was done by a stagaire, but Clavia wasn't that happy with the results. They sound rather the same, although you haven't the tweaking possibilities of the NordLead itself.

Welcome to E-M. I have both the original NM and a G2, both with the DSP expansion cards. In my opinion, if you are planning to use the NM (or G2) as a keyboard-type poly synth, as opposed to something like a monophonic sequencer synth or noise machine, you really ought to get the expansion card.
On the original NM, if you keep your patch size below 50% DSP usage, you can get 8 voices. But to really start making the more complex sounds that the NM is so good at, you'll quickly start using up more DSP and as soon as you go over 50% the voice count drops to four. That's where the expansion card comes in - it lets you build sounds that use up all 100% of the DSP and still get eight voice polyphony (or 16 voices if you keep the DSP below 50%).
But keep in mind that the DSP expansion cards for the original NM are getting hard to find. You should start looking for one soon - or ask around here, maybe in a new thread. Maybe ask where other folks have found them recently. _________________ Dave Peck |

I agree with Dave, but after working with the NM you'll realize there are work-arounds possible, e.g. if you need only one voice in a 50%+ Patch, the other Slots are able to create more voices.
Besides studying sounds, you can also concentrate on the research if a Patch uses the right amount of DSP power. You'll be amazed how much you can trim down by changing modules.
BTW you'll also notice some Patches will change in sound when using other modules, due to the order of calculation, special FM Patches.

after 2 years without it, i recently got a desktop g1 for 300 bucks so i decided to re-download the patch archive but ran into some problems. is there something wrong with the 40 something meg zip file of all the patches? I have tried to unzip it on two osx machines and it has given me an error (it does this when it gets to d-A-Slider.pch). anway, just curious if somebody on a windows machine could check this out and at least try to narrow the problem down for me.
thanks,

On Windows 2000, using ALZip v.5.5 it unpacked correctly, so it must not have been the corrupted zip file fault. |

thanks for the info. hmmm....I wonder if it does this on all macs. Any mac g1 owners still out there willing to try this out? I'm running tiger 10.4.7, but also tried it on a panther machine as well. Error on both.
