Lemur help! Subject description: Trying to control Ableton midi |
 |
|
I am attempting to control Ableton Live midi with a brand-new JazzMutant Lemur. I made a pretty little interface and everything, with some faders and a step sequencer, but I can't figure out how to midi-map it in Ableton. Previously I've just used the Behringer fader boxes for controlling Ableton but the method of putting Ableton in midi-mapping mode and then wiggling the selected control doesn't work, since it's not a hardware control.
I've tried to look through the manual but it's entirely possible what I need is in there and I just missed it. If it's in there, please point me to it!
Thanks! _________________ solo: http://www.myspace.com/skippyvodka

Well the problem could be one of a few, but my guess would be that you don't have the JazzDaemon set up correctly.
Excuse me if you know all this!
Here is how to set it from the lemur.
First press the left most hardware button to go into the setup screen.
Now press the 3rd icon from the left at the bottom that looks like a midi connector.
You now see a matrix mapping the 8 ins and outs to a Daemon running on a computer somewhere.
If there are mappings there but greyed out it means that there are no daemons running on the network, so start a JazzDaemon on your computer.
If they all read "none" then you need to setup the mappings as follows.
press the none for input 0 and you should see a list of all machines connected to the network that are running JazzDaemons, if you dont see any machines run the JazzDaemon on your target machine and it should automagically apear on the lemur screen.
Double tap the machine name and you will see a list of virtual midi ports running on the machine, choose "Daemon Output 0" by double tapping it, or single tapping it and then tapping the "connect" button.
Now do the same for the output but choose "Daemon Input 0"
Now press the "Save Config" button and then the "close" button.
So now we have setup 1 of the 8 in/outs that the lemur can use.
Now start Live and goto preferences and then into the "Midi Sync" tab.
Make sure that "Input: Daemon input 0" and "Output: Daemon Output 0" both have the remote setting set on On.
Now load up the JazzEditor and add a knob control, set the target to use midi 0, set it to use a control change.
Syncronise with the lemur, go input midi learn in Live, choose your control and move the knob on the lemur, you should see the control mapped. You should now have a bi-directional control set up.
Any problems just post here.
Cheers

P.S. make sure you have installed version 2.0 of the software it is far more powerful than version 1.
Also there is loads of Live stuff on the JazzMutant stuff, some people are doing pretty clever stuff. Login and have a look
Cheers
