How do the connections on the jacks go? And which is the output jack? The top one?

right i guess i left that out. the top is the out, the bottom right is the source and the left is the mod. but if you only have one thing plugged in either the mod or source then it will route that single input to both the mod and source so you get an octave up.

the jacks should all be facing out, away from center and should be switching for the octave up to work. i'll have to update that when i get a sec. sorry

the output can also be used as the source/making the source the out, but no octave up

samples here http://thesquarewaveparade.com/mingrod.html its pretty nasty

Yes, this isn't the first time we've had discussions on the passive ring mod circuit. Here was a sample I posted previously.

If anyone can find the actual passive ring mod post, buried in the depths of electro-music.com- that would be great, because I'm buggered if I can find it! Shocked
