The Moog as Junk |
 |
|
Hi gang,
You're going to love this!
In my hometown we have a large junk/appliance pickup week twice a year, where we can set out stuff too big for the normal trash collection. We had our autumn collection last week.
I was talking to one of my colleagues today and he said that he saw an entire, and very large Moog that someone had set out on the curb! He didn't pick it up for he was concerned that it was too big to fit in his car. He left it and came back a few hours later with a larger vehicle.
Naturally, it was gone by then!

something like that happens once in a lifetime (if it happens at all), rarer than a solar eclipse.

When I was about 17, I had a dream that I found a red Fender Stratocaster in a ditch on a warm sunny day - I was into the Shadows at the time. I remember going out the next day walking for miles looking in ditches, but no Strat! My birthday was a couple of weeks later and my parents bought me a Futurama II guitar which was a lovely thought, but of course no substitute for the Strat which I didn't get for another 14 years. |

Sorry but I have a hard time believing this. What are the odds? I mean come on... it was probably just a big Polyfusion. |

Oh man, yikes! I would have parked the car and disassembled it right there, and then made it fit into the car. A few years ago a guy was selling a bunch of gear and he was giving away a DK Synergy that, according to him wasn't working. So I went down and picked it up from him. When I got it home I plugged it in and sure enough it wasn't working very well at all.
When I opened it up, I noticed that most of the J wires had popped out. So I put them all back, and the synth worked just fine after that. I sold it to a guy in Germany for $500.00. Not bad for free.

I hope it went to a better home, where it will get the love and appreciation it deserves.

Yes- this is a similar story to that of Sussex University in the early 1990's when no less than five EMS VCS3's and a Roland 100M were discovered in a skip (not by me- and I think the source to the story is correct). Due to some crushing from heavy items dumped on top of the Synthi's, three of them were damaged beyond repair, but two did survive, one of them still fully working. The 3 module Roland faired okay too.
....sigh.....
I'll just have to get a 'proper job'.......sigh...... _________________ ACHTUNG!

Not quite on the side of the road but -
A guy in Japan sold me his Korg MS20 for Y1000 = US$8 with free delivery. It had been in his attic for over 20 years, he was very pleased to be rid of it.
Works fine, but the Korg logo is covered with a Moog stick-on label. He explained he had really wanted a Moog (back in his student days). but couldn't afford it.
Maybe it sounds strange, but sort of normal in Japan, it is very common to see Hondas rebadged as Harleys and Yamahas as BSAs or Triumphs.
Anyway, the Moog label remains. |

I've heard these crazy stories about discovering old synths covered in dust in universities. Makes me sad I've never experienced that while in college. I find useful things on the side of the road from time to time (boutique speakers, futon, etc) if my station wagon can't carry it, my gf's truck will and if it happens to be larger than that, I have access to a gooseneck trailer that can haul 2 cars. I'm prepared I tell you! |

I would abandon my car and lug the thing home on my back even if it breaks it and takes 3 days. |
