modular sequencing styles |
 |
|
hey forum... been a while!
i'm getting into modular sequencing ideas via the g2, and i'm wanting to get some feedback about what styles have worked for people.
first of all, there's the style that has to keep track of one signal as it bounces around. that requires some serious control via s&h and trigger delays. i made a 1st order markov patch that did that, and the triggering nearly made me jump off a bridge... so i'm gonna put that style on hold for a minute.
i'm hoping there's some kind of way to do a procedural style, like where one module gets a call and kills all the other modules while it answers, returning the answer to a common area... some kind of nested structure like this with a main section... though i guess that'd still require some signal flow management.
the main problem i guess is that all modules can't run simultaneously without some way of focusing attention and then updating the patch with the consequences of the current module...
anyway, any advice or insight would be appreciated. i'm perfectly content to stumble into a wall in the dark a few dozen times, but i trust at least a few of you folks. _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

I would say muting some of the other modules (parts) in the patch using some event sequencers which would strip or mute parts when a new part takes over.
I tend to do this with variations (different vairations have different focus), while the other buildup and teardown is done through manual muting with my rs7000 sequencer.
Just some thoughts.

or use morph groups for focusing in an out of certain modules (via parameter value morphs) ...
I'm not sure if either reply is what you're looking for.

just fishing for ideas... thanks, the mute idea sounds interesting, maybe i could adapt that.
i find it a lot easier to hear people's patching ideas said out loud as opposed to trying to work through a patch.
this is a modular sequence
http://www.scottbruzenak.com/modseq1.mp3
it's all g2, i'm not hitting anything except for play. it's a sequence section, augmented by a stepper section, which is being fed into a quantize section. each section is making choices based on certain conditions in the patch being reached-the kind of semi-random i like. _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

my patches all make heavy use of mutiplexers, and, more recently, the status module. i kind of had a revelation about how perfect that module is for managing polyphony. _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:
