Buying a used G2X: what to check? |
 |
|
Hi all,
it is quite a while that I don't post in this forum, I used to be in the DIY section (some of
you may remember me for the "CartonSynth" - a SoundLab based synthesizer
built in a carton box )...
For various personal issues I could not neither post nor read the forum - not
because I had temporary health impairment, but because I moved from a country to
another
Anyways I am back online, and I just come with an interesting question for you all
G2X owners.
I am possibly going to buy one in the next days, it is more than 2 years old but seems
to be in a really good status.
I would like to ask what would be useful to check, apart from what you would check in
any other synthesizer, like the keyboard, the knobs, the joystick...
As far as I can remember, all the Clavia products are really solid, also the PCBs
looks very well built, so let's say that I am not expecting a 'dancing' connector or
something similar (don't know if anybody else use the same word, but by 'dancing' I
mean that a connector is not soldered properly to the PCB or it is mechanically failing).
So, if you have any advice, I would be glad to hear them.
thanks a lot,

thanks for the reply.
If you know, in case I find something that is not working properly, do
you know if Clavia can sell the spare parts? I am good enough with
electronics to fix things myself, so I would like to save on repair costs.
thanks,

I don't know, they seem to be less easy on that than they were in the past, but do I know some people got spare parts to fix stuff themselves - I for one once got a keyboard replacement for the NM Classic ... but I got it when I was at the Clavia factory, and that was many years ago ... _________________ Jan

| On the G2X I picked up from a store, one rotary led was burnt. Just one segment. I found out later, but I guess I would have bought it anyway. |

Ciao Nodular,
the one I am going to fetch tomorrow has one of the LCD displays which
has some liquid leak on one of the crystals... At least this is what I saw
from the picture that the guy who is selling it sent me, he anyways says
that while playing you don't notice that much.
This gave the price a nice boost down, so I am still wondering if I can try
to ask Clavia for the spare part of the LCD screen (should be the leftmost
one).
I hope that they can send me the part or at least tell me where to get it,
I really don't want to spend money on a repair shop when I know that I
can replace that myself...

| Alex, if nothing else you can probably get the part number somewhere (maybe even by looking at the damaged one) and ordering an equivalent from an electronics supplier. I did that and replaced the LCD in my virus indigo2 a few years ago. |
