i am despondent

i went to turn on the g2 engine-it's been working fine as always, but then today, nothing. the power light comes on, but it doesn't connect to the editor. i replaced the usb cord, even the power cord, nothing. it came on for one second to play the factory patch but then died again.

i hit the secret button on the face, it does the little one-two dance and then same deal-power led on, but no connection. any ideas?

Hmm, shit.

This doesn't really sound like the USB death syndrome that some have been describing ... more like the power supply collapsing but then again the power LED is always on ?

Maybe you could open the synth to see if all connectors are seated properly ... is it expanded? if so maybe temporarily remove that to see what happens.

it is expanded. i was thinking maybe it's a heat issue? i had it running with other gear right on top and bottom (it's not racked).

i guess i'll open it up tonight:(

I was thinking about a heat issue as well ... but when it's cooled down and still runs for a second only I'm not so sure ... I'd expect more time.

arg.

i really don't want to try to get a soldering iron near my g2

it's so sad, i'm used to that thing being by far the most solid piece in my studio. nary a hiccup more than a restart wouldn't fix.

SadSadSad

when i check out the connectors, is there anything in particular i should look for? are there some soft plastic footings for things, or is it all soldered in?

There is no use to get out a soldering iron, nothing you can do with that probably ... there are one or two short cables between the power supply and the main board, you could check those - pull those out and back in.

There is the expansion, you try to see if it will run without the expansion.

Then there is one socketed ROM on the main board, you can try to push that one down.

Then there is a connector for the keyboard, probably not an issue, but take it out snd push it in, same thing for the front panel board.

When that doesn't work or doesn't give a clue it's time for a repair man I'd say.

Hi, I had a problem a few weeks ago with my G2 Engine, for some reason I had to reinstall the OS

Don't know if this would be a cure for your problem.
