Subject description: What's the difference?

I'm not quite sure what the difference is between this main forum and the developers' corner sub-forum.

For example, why is a finished project like the Quantix in the developers' corner and are similar projects like the Attenuverter and the Buchla 281 in this main forum?

I get the feeling that a fine project like the Quantix gets little or no attention tucked away in that sub-forum...

Over the last few years, there have been many discussions, both open & behind the scenes, about the structure of the various forums here. The growth, and addition of new areas usually happened VERY quickly...the DIY area being the largest of them. Depending on your perspective, DIY also includes programming languages (which the developer's corner was originally created for) and even some tools such as MAX/MSP as the same level of DIYness as the PCB projects here.

In efforts to make it more manageable, some members had requested a more useful structure. There was no structure that could appease everyone. Others suggest using the search functions to find activity in forums/sub-forums. Of course, the projects continued to roll in as the structure was discussed. Regardless, retro-editing the forum was a nightmare task that no one thought would consistently be honest to the original poster's intentions.

This is also why there have been a few attempts at a single list of all projects on the site, with links to the threads. A good idea, but also a difficult task to retro-fit existing projects into, as well as manage on a daily basis.

That said, if the original poster ever wanted to change their mind about the location of a thread they started, they could request one of the moderators, janitors, or administrators here to move the thread to another area of the forum.

Practically speaking, if you do a search across forums/sub-forums (see Search in the upper right of this page), you'll notice the complete search is contained in the address bar, which means once you find a search that works consistently for you (new posts in DIY & all sub forums for example), then you can use your browsers bookmarking to save it to run any time you'd like. As an moderator, I have several of these links to monitor the various forums I watch over.

[edit] - consistent monikers

For a long time I didn't realize there was a generic DIY forum on here. Most of the other forums on here are only divided into subforums and have no generic.

I was posting stuff in Developer's Corner that would have been much more appropriate in the generic DIY forum.

Actually, the vast majority of top level forums are postable on electro-music.com.

In the case of DIY, there're a lot of general topics that crop up, and a lot of it doesn't classify into the subforums. There has been increasing attention by the admins, moderators and janitors lately, since DIY is by far the most active forum.

We always welcome suggestions. Community involvement is the most important part of this place, and we all encourage it.

We can always move stuff. PM a Janitor if you want help- or the admins.
