Hi, if there are any left, can you put me down for 2. I actually own an old Delta too, modules would make life so much easier. _________________ LektroiD |

Would you sell one of your MOTM style panels and pot bracket along with the PCB?
Cheers,

Thanks!
I'm REALLY happy we have the same color scheme. I think we should start a new post just on this topic - banana frac rack. I know of BugBrand and Metalbox that do frac banana. it would be good if we were all on the same page (or close to it?).

Price I'm thinking ~$15 per PCB.
I don't know if that includes shipping in the US. I still have to figure out the details.

I build finished modules in just about any format you want. PM me if interested. For this topic I'd like to keep things more SDIY related. I'll put up a message in the for sale section when I have some ready.
Thanks for the interest,

Thanks Funky and Fonik. I am changing the text size because it's harder to see black on silver as opposed to white on black (don't know why that is exactly).

The first (prototype) batch of PCBs should arrive this week. I hope to have one built and fully tested by this weekend.
If all checks out OK I will tally up all those who requested boards and place a large order. I'm thinking 50, but if I count up to around 50 people I will probably order 100. In any case, I should have these available in three weeks time. Gives me some breathing space to polish up the schematics and write up a decent builders guide (and user's guide!).
I'll keep you all posted and thanks to everyone for your interest.

I'm in for 2. Also in Chicago as you might recall having dropped off a VCF at my place a couple of years ago. |

So... I received ten pcbs last week, built one up and it works beautifully!
BUT
There are some issues that need to be addressed.
First, the silk screen looks bad. The lines are not totally crisp (no big deal) and it is shifted slightly and runs onto some pads (big deal). I sent an email about this to them and am waiting for a response.
Second, the holes are too small. This may be because I ordered 2oz. copper instead of 1.oz. Perhaps this made the holes smaller?
The components will fit but wiring with 24awg is difficult.
I'll see what the response on the poor silk screen is. If it is not something they will remedy (send me new boards) or can do reliably, I will have to search for another pcb house.
I was hoping to have these pcbs ready for shipping in a few weeks but this will likely be delayed a week or two. Now I'm thinking the end of April.

What ICs are these using? The original Delta used the reasonably scarce LM13600's, so I would assume these are using the readily available LM13700's since they are basically the same with a few added diodes
If it's not too much trouble, any chance of a parts list, or build document so we can start collecting the necessary components? _________________ LektroiD |

I'm using 13700.
Also note, there are many things different about this design. I use the term 'clone' very loosely. BUT the core is the same as the Delta VCF from the service manual. The V/I converter is different, input/output stages are different, the VCA is completely different (and much better).
I don't have the BOM, schematics, or user guide ready yet. I'll have the BOM and schematic done and posted next week. Users/Builders Guide shortly thereafter.

They should be ready by mid/late April.
loss1234 wrote: | i am also intrigued by this banana frack idea...but have always been weary of building my own banana cables |
Banana frac is a reality. BugBrand has a bunch of modules and Metalbox does custom banana jack modules. A bunch of fellow DIYers are into, too.
I thought of making my own patch cables, too. If you want them with stackable plugs then the savings aren't really worth the time and effort.
I get pre-made cables (Pomona brand) of various lengths and these cost $4.50 on average. The Johnson stackable plugs are $1.50 each, so figure two plugs is $3 plus wire and, most importantly, time.
I do make non-stackable patch cords myself. I buy ten or more Johnson insulated solderless tapered handle from Mouser for 90 cents each. Use 18AWG wire and it takes about 1 minute to make. Of course non-stacking plugs are not as desirable but they still get a lot of use because I don't always need to stack. An important thing to keep in mind is that these plugs don't fit all the way into the top of the pomona plugs (the Johnson's handle is too wide).
Check out the "Frac Rack Banana Jack" post for more info and interesting ideas from other users (addicts) of this format:

You're not too late. Believe me! The first run hasn't even gotten to me yet.
The prototype runs so far have had errors or needed changes. Still, I should have these in and hope to be shipping by the end of the month.
I have kept busy in the meantime. I am finishing up a pcb for a single VCA with a mixer front end. I do a lot of custom modules and find a need for this for almost every one. This is the Simms VCA design from EDN mag. It uses both OTAs of a LM13700 (search Mike Sims VCA EDN). The result is a vast improvement over single stage 13700 or 3080 based VCAs.
With two of these pcbs it will be easy to configure Pan and Xfade functions.
You can leave out the VCA and use it as a simple mixer, too.
I'm still cleaning up the schematics and getting a BOM together for the Delta. I will upload these ASAP.

Thanks! FWIW I'd definitely be interested in the Simms VCA board as well-it's such a great idea that I was surprised that only Oakley had adopted it so far... |
