Hello!

Does anyone have a resource for ordering internal parts to Clavia/Nord products? I'm looking to get a new power supply for a NL 2, but not sure who to go through. Could always go thru my service specialist, but I'd rather grab the info from his rolodex than have to pay him to do it for me ... Smile

Couldn't find the info on the Clavia site; perhaps not something they give out anyway...

Cheers,

Nige

right, can the power supply it be replaced? there is a hum coming from the inside of the unit, but not easy to tell where it's coming from. my best guess was that it was the power ...

dr nigel you are probably right re. the hum and the power supply as this is a known issue with all Clavia gear ... hmm .. a lot of Clavia gear Wink Anyway, its normal and changing the supply might fix it or worsen it, hard to tell. The hum most likely comes from the magnetic field of the transformer coupling to the steel case, that's my theorry anyway.

Clavia DMI has most components in stock, although they will replace only, which means one broken item in is one working part out! It is impossible to use a PitchStick in other gear without dismanteling a Nord Smile

As Jan wrote, a humming power supply is typical Nord...
You should be glad there is no ventilator build in (Memory Moog)!
Best thing to do is making music in tune with it Wink

My G2 also hums. Hum definitely can be caused by transformers. The fields do cause reaction forces.

Most common cause of transformer hum, and whine, is due to forces between components within the transformer. I can't remember what type of transformer is used in my G2, but the old iron laminated types are most susceptable to this issue. These feature iron flux concentrating cores, made of electrically insulated laminar plates. The poorly bonded lamina's can vibrate against each other. The hum may be caused by something else, though.

Toroidal transformers generally perform better, and I believe pretty much don't hum. An electrically competant user could try fitting a toroidal type, and check for any improvements. Remember, mains electricity can kill, start fires, and worst of all, ruin nords. Toroids are also more expensive for equivalent power rating.

Maybe I'll get around to checking inside my G2 again one day, but it is definitely not the worst issue in my studio.

Mine in Australia hums. I bought my G2X ex demo from USA, and switched it to Aus voltage. Should be the same power supply everywhere.

The hum is not present on the Audio output signals, but is a mechanical vibration which can be heard eminating from the synth case. For me, the hum is just a little louder than the hum from my old fluro lights.

You may have just been lucky enough not to have the issue.

My G2 engines all three hum a bit, one a bit more than the other two and the two NM Classics I had did the same thing ... and then we have the several threads here about humming Clavia gear Rolling Eyes

Oh and the transformers are the laminated core thingies, but they are PCB types so probably well filled with epoxy & so will not likely hum by themselves.

I have an electro 61 a little over a year old and the middle "Eb" key is going out, I have to wiggle it to get it to play, Do I have to purchase a new key bank already for this or is there something else wrong?

I had that with my nord modular, I tried to repair it by cleaning the key contacts which would help for a while but the problem would recur and I ended up putting a new keyboard in.

Oh, and welcome of course.

I have the same with my high F: not noticable when I play it hard enough, but in softer parts, it tends to come in a bit later....
I have the feeling that it could be the spring at the back of the key that has a little more tension than the other ones (there is a spring, right Cool )

Maybe I should try the cleaning first Smile
