Blue Hell wrote: | Moved this up a bit ... Does "field recording" imply that it isn't finished (a work in progress), or just that I made it myself (which in this case would be all except for the song by MS)? So in the first video the audio belongs to MS and the images to me (or Google, or whomever Google got them from). In the second ditto, but with half the overlapping audio is mine from my Roland SVC-350 Vocoder. And the third is mine and/or Google's, or whomever Google got them from.
But if you like this post here, okay. But I did as I said record the speaking vocoder and uploaded all images myself. _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

Hmm .. do I get it right then that this is a concert you recorded?
The field recording forum is not meant to to post recordings made of bands in the wild, but for the other type of field recording where people go out with their recorder to catch the car horn, the squeaking door, that kind of stuff ... recording a band and posting it here without the consent of that band is a copyright violation ... so if this is the case I'll have to ask you to remove the links. _________________ Jan

I downloaded it from YouTube and re-uploaded it with my "Google Images". But the other vocoder (the one that talks about the scanners) is me. However since I didn't go out and actually record the sounds you mentioned then this wouldn't be a field recording (it's a in my bedroom recording). So if you want me to remove the first two vids with MS's "Body Snatchers" say so once again (for clarification) and I will (sometime later tonight) after I return from store. Or you can, if you don't want to wait for me to do it (if I haven't done so within two hours, let's say). _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

I just remembered something, and that is...when you upload someone else's copyrighted material on YouTube you get a message saying it's copyrighted. For some the copyright owners don't mind, and for others it's automatically removed. This (Midnight Star's "Body Snatcher") DIDN'T have any such warning to it!!! Which means the copyright has expired, so therefore there's NO copyright violation and this song is now public domain (perhaps SOLAR, Inc is no longer in business, or they don't care about old MS music anymore).
So therefore there's ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for the first two links to be removed!!!
If you want verify this for yourself just upload a Midnight Star song on YT and see whether or not you get a copyright violation message. I didn't, BUT I have for others. _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

I think it would be a good idea when you'd read up a bit on copyright laws, I've removed the two links for which you indicated that a copyright violation existed. _________________ Jan

Blue Hell wrote: | I think it would be a good idea when you'd read up a bit on copyright laws, I've removed the two links for which you indicated that a copyright violation existed. | Actually I indicted the opposite since...in my YouTube control panel there is NO "Copyright violation" or "Matched third party content" warnings. So therefore I think the copyright has expired and this is now a public domain song. I do have other songs which did "Matched third party content" such as ELO's "Prologue", Herbie Hancock's "I Thought It Was You", and The Buggles "I Love You Miss Robot". BUT nothing from Midnight Star has any copyright violation warning of any kind to it!!! So therefore imho it should be okay for me to put those links back-up, since without a copyright violation no laws are being broken and no one can sue you or me (it too late for that). But I'll let you decide. Should you or I find-out if SOLAR, Inc (the record production company for Midnight Star is still in business)? I also get no copyright violations for any song that originally belonged to Scotti Bros. as well.
If it's okay with you I'll redo the link you have allowed with the images from Google (unless that's a no-no, as well). YouTube has never stopped images (except blatant nudity ones) from being uploaded, and I've never heard or read of anyone getting in legal trouble for doing so. _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

It'd be nice if another admin/mod or other member got in here and gave their opinion on this. I know there's another admin but I forgot his/her name. But are you 'Blue Hell' the main admin, or not? If whoever is the owner (webmaster, or whatever you call yourself) here wants to weigh-in on this please do so. I'll read the copyright stuff, as well. _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

Youtube rejecting or accepting material is not an indication for material being copyrighted or not. All art forms made by people are copyrighted by definition, whether this right is claimed or not. Only the copyright holder can decide if it is allowed for a a third party to make the material public or to use it as a base for a public work. Sometimes, with the material it will be indicated if reproduction / redistribution is allowed ... but when not, it must be assumed that such is not allowed. So in general you can't just google pics and post those, or make a slide show or a movie based on pictures you obtained that way. You would have to ask the authors of the material if they would allow such usage.
So this is not something to negotiate with me but something to negotiate with the copyright holders. I'm sorry, but such is the law, and this site would not be able to overcome the financial consequences of not adhering to that. _________________ Jan

You are right, I'm not the one running this site, if you don't agree with me you can try to draw mosc's attention to this - his word will be final, not mine. _________________ Jan

What's 'mosc's' opinion, since he's another site-admin? And are either 'Blue Hell' or 'mosc' the owner (webmaster)? If not let's get his/her opinion. You can also contact YouTube to see why Midnight Star recordings don't have any copyright violation warnings such as the "Matched third party content" to them.
Sorry for this inconvenience (but I just want to make sure there's no overreaction going on). Don't you have to renew copyrights like you do patents? Patents expire if you forget to renew them. Just like ownerships of movies, TV, music expires unless renewed. Warrants expire (except in the case of murder). Idk about copyrights, but all other ownerships expire, unless they're renewed or were made permanent to begin with.
Of course I'm just guessing at the above...I don't really know all these legalities...someone who does can tell all of how it is!!! _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

Alright, so I guess from now on no music that was originally produced by someone else. But does that mean not their actual material, or does that include me using my own vocoder and spinging (speak/singing, since one only has to speak into a vocoder and play the necessary notes/chords and it will automatically come-out sounding like singing) the word of the song? So in-other-words can I only do recordings that no one else has done before, or can I do it as long as I'm not using their actual recordings? I did take a glance at those two links, but I just don't feel like reading through their entireties for the answer. So therefore I'll let you 'Blue Hell', 'Electro80', or 'mosc' say. And don't worry I'll comply with whatever 'mosc' says...don't want to be getting banned here!!! _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

Covers you mean? those are a nono too ... but a reference to another piece of work is fine, like a fragment or a parody ... and a cover that is not recognizable is ok too I'd say. _________________ Jan

In other-words none of the musical accompaniment i.e synths, guitars, basses, drums, etc... (or any such emulation of). Just the sound of my vocoder singing the lyrics, but nothing else added to that. For instance me speaking into the vocoder and having it come-out singing "Snatch your body", "Body snatching your body", "I'll make it so good for you", and vocoding the non-vocoder lyrics as well. As I said before vocoder only, no other musical instruments or emulations of, just the songs lyrics. _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder

What about telling forum members I have something on YouTube, BUT NOT providing (a) link(s)...they'll just have to go there without (a) link(s)? _________________ Roland SVC-350 Vocoder
