hello!
i'm still pretty new to this board so i apologize in advance if there has already been a post on this. feel free to redirect me any that already exist.

i'm planning on building a modular using +/-12 power, using mostly MFOS modules, along with some Cat Girl Synth modules and some others. i've built the sound lab, WSG, some 4ms pedals, and a few circuits from scratch, so i'm pretty familiar with building stuff. i'm not as familiar with modular synths, specifically what the various modules do. i was wondering if there was a good online source that explains in down to earth terms what different modules do. (voltage quantinizer, sample and hold, gates...)

i've been recommended some books (electronic music by strange, complete Guide to Synthesizers, by Devarahi) but they are out of print. does anyone know of any free sources of them on line?

thanks!

Here'as a way to learn what different modules do, and actually try them and hear them - Go to Clavia's web site and download the free Nord Modular G2 DEMO software, which will run a limited monophonic version of the G2 hardware synth directly from your PC with no actual synth hardware required. Then download the G2's user manual, which gives step by step info on each module along with some examples of how to use them. I also recommend the G2 tutorials that are in the G2 section of this site. Of course, it won't be exactly like analog modules, for example various analog filters all sound a bit different, and they may not sound exactly like the G2's filters, but you can learn a lot about how all of the modules function and how they can be used with other modules.
