Board arrived today, half built already!

Really stupid question i know but, i take it if your using the on board power regulator you need to connect both GND and AGND to the ground on my 12v power supply.

Thanks

90% finished my first one.

Is it me, or are some of the soldering pads really, really tiny? Maybe I need to use a smaller soldering tip.

Yes, both ground pads should be connected to a ground rail whether using an on board regulator or not. I provided two for people that have "Dirty" and "Clean" power supplies.

Emdot, I used the standard sizes that Eagle provided for the pads.

I was afraid of that. I think I need to use a finer soldering tip. Mine worked, but it was kind of clunky and I'm afraid I won't be able to easily tell if my solder connections are good...old eyes you know.

Anyway, two of the boards are built, though I haven't tested them yet.

I'm just in the process of moving house.. Hopefully there will be a couple of these boards left for when I get there.. (I don't want to order to my current address, as I may miss them, since they are being shipped from abroad).

If there is any left, would it be possible to hold for another week or so until I am in the new address?

I'd like to bring up the interesting fact that the scale selection control sends a 0->5V signal into the PIC. One might set up a simple attenuating mixer to combine external CV and the Scale Select pot...

I'm really itching for the harmonic series, even five octaves of it. Might eventually send in an order for a couple of custom PICs... Cheers!

Today I took a couple of shoots of what I think could be the smallest dual quantizer in eurorack format!
It works very well, and I like what it does when turning the knob with nothing is inserted in the input jack. Thanks!

Hey Tommi,

that is real cute. Nice work.

You don't happen to have a spare front panel Laughing

Hi David, i am glad that you like it. I think that my panel is looking better than it is, cause is made of 1,5mm thick aluminium and i stuck on it a printed adehesive decal for laser printers. It's very easy to do. You can find a pdf on page 1 of this thread (it's for the old firmware pic) and i attach the one I use.
cheers Very Happy

What DOES it do when turning the knob with nothing in the input jack?

I think I missed something.

I 've recorded a bit. It's two vcos with the same rootnote into a vca, both pitches controlled by the simple quantizers (no input). At the beginning I use only one quantizer, then i plug the other and start to play with both.

Interesting. Which PIC version are you using?

I am using the latest (the one with octave, tone+5th, etc etc). The smoothed descending tone is when the knob is on bypass. Do you have tried with yours?
cheers.

Two things:

@Tommi: Those knobs are great! Where did you get them or what are they called? I'd love to find purple to match my Suit and Tie Guy .BAM and .MIX.

Oh, and will I blow anything up if, in a dual-board setup, I simply attach +12V (and GND) to one board and wire the other board to those connections on the first board, or do I have to have a separate connection to the bus board?

It looks like Tommi just used one cable.

Thanks.

Can't wait to get started.
(I sent a request, today. Hope there are still boards/chips!)

Hi glitched,
I bought them from banzaieffects. They are called 'mini fluted knobs'. This is the link http://www.banzaimusic.com/Mini-Fluted-knob-cream.html
Of course you can link toghether the power pins of both and solder the power cable to just one of them.
I 've done this way because flat cables were really easy to split and that was the easiest and cleanest way to do it !

I've built 2 of the 4 with all but the pot on them, but haven't tried them yet. I haven't quite decided whether I'll put them in a module or just add them to some upcoming sequencers.

Might give them a go this next week while I have some time off. They will come in handy for calibrating some VCOs.

Oh, and mine have a couple custom scales.

FYI, you can get these Davies clones in the USA, here: http://www.mammothelectronics.com/category-s/45.htm

$0.68 each!

Note: the purple version is not the same color as the ones that Suit and Tie Guy uses on his euro modules, .BAM and .MIX; it's much darker.

I'm wondering how accurate the 1V/octave scaling of this would be? It would be dependant upon the 5V supply.

Cheers,
Stew.
