Subject description: G2X vs. ?

Hi dear forum!

I have a very existential question/problem...

I own a G2X for 6 years now, but used maybe just 10% of his capacity.. I love the idea of his flexibility but i don´t have the knowledge and nor time to get into synthesis. I have also a Poly Evolver and i love this synth! I love knobs and i love to tweak them. My workflow is sooo much faster with the PEK... studio work is not so important for me. My priority is live performing.

Maybe I´m definitely not a modular freak...but one think I´m sure, i love analogue synths! So I thought to trade my G2X for a Moog Voyager (maybe also paying the diference if there is any)

So my question is: would you trade your G2X for a Moog Voyager or for any other synth?

Many thanks for any opinion!!!

If you're not using it.. by all means let it go.

I would _love_ to get a G2X, but they are extremely hard to find in the US.

My advice would be to try the patches and performances posted to the G2 Patches forums first. There are a lot of talented patch/performance programmers in this user community who have posted astounding creations. Any of these patches can be studied to gain some synthesis knowledge. If after trying a fair selection of these user patches you still do not find the sound you want, then maybe you could consider trading the G2X.

I plan to use my G2X a lot for my roommate's noise band project. The combination of the G2X's hardware UI and the programmability make it unique and irreplaceable in my synth collection. It can be used in so many ways that my Voyager and Korg M3 cannot.

From the sound of it, I would say you're probably not into the virtual modular synthesis thing, at this time. Nothing wrong with that. I think you're right to consider other options. Personally, Voyager is not really my thing. Have you played one? I wonder how well suited it is to the style you mentioned. Your PEK seems a good fit. Are you looking for something very different from the PEK?

I agree with Gov.
Check out the patches in the archive as a starting point, use the editor to tweak them to your liking.
The categorized listings are invaluable for finding the type of sound you want without surfing endlessly through a sea of pads, basslines, and leads.
Just a simple assigning of existing parameters to knobs can really transform some of them.I'm amazed at how many knobs are unused in some patches.
If it's not your cup o' tea, then so be it,but I don't think you'll find a Voyager (of all things) a better fit for that kind of music IMO.

(Not to be hating on Voyagers, but more loving on the G2X)
