My mistake, I should have researched him before my choosing.

While Harry Partch was not an electronic musician, he was most certainly and electro-musician. He inspires us to build our own instruments and to explore alternative tunings. _________________ --Howard

if Harry Partch is an electro-musician, I suggest another one: Ivor Darreg
Wikipedia wrote: | In the forties, Ivor built an Amplified Cello, Amplified Clavichord, and Electric Organ, the Electric Keyboard Oboe and the Electric Keyboard Drum. The Amplified Clavichord and Electric Organ no longer exist, but the Electric Keyboard Oboe - like the organ, based on blocking oscillator circuits and capable of microtonality -, the Electric Keyboard Drum, which uses buzzer-like relays, and the Amplified Cello are still working. |
Most of his writings can be found here. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Good one, Carlo. I read a few of his papers, some written before I was born, and this guy had a good view of the future. _________________ --Howard

I read a few of those articles. They were very interesting. I have book marked the site for later reading. Thanks for the link.

1. Eno (of course!)
2. William Bennett (Whitehouse and now Cut Hands)
3. Maurizio Bianchi, genius synth guy from Milan Italy. Check him out...
4. Alan Ravenstine (Pere Ubu)
5. I may as well say this, but Pete Townsend has to be mentioned, because he was the first person (before Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk) who's work with synthesizers caught my attention really... |

Her best work was the Clockwork Orange soundtrack. |

but the most influential german keyboardist of the 70s should of course be mentioned.. Irmin Schimdt !
His recent work with Kumo is top notch.
Some info: http://www.spoonrecords.com/irmin.html |
Yeah his best moment is on "Oh Yeah" where he does that beautiful spiral-staircase thing with the organ. |

I've always been most envious of Cevin Key's synth collection. I can't think of anyone with one THAT huge... |

I agree about Clockwork Orange -- particularly "Timesteps".
As far as the "classical music played on a synth" genre, I think "Everything You wanted to hear on the Moog (but was afraid to ask)" kind of takes the cake. I feel that that album is kind of the "final word" on the genre.
Incidentally, I started out playing Bach Transcriptions on synthesizer but it seemed, after a while, to be tiring and limiting.
I would add Morton Subotnick to the list of electronic music luminaries. Particularly "Silver Apples of the Moon" and "The Wild Bull".
Also, I liked Dick Hyman's "Minotaur". _________________ -- Kevin

1. Larry Fast (Synergy)
2. Isao Tomita
3. Jean Jaques Perrey
4. Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo)
5. AEJOTZ
aw, dang it. I just saw that Patchmouse beat me to the gag of listing oneself.
I also see that I posted on this thread back in 2011. And I listed Kraftwerk? I must have been drunk. _________________ AEJOTZ is pronounced "A-Jotz"
