Problem with Roland M181 keyboard

I have a weird problem with my Roland M181 keyboard, everything is working fine, except for the portamento.
The portamento actually works fine, the problem is that when you turn up the portamento time, it transposes the entire keyboard down.
With the portamento time at max it transposes the keyboard down by 2 octaves.
I have checked everything I can think of, but have no idea what is causing this.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
