How do you manage your backups? |
 |
|
A new thread about you know what.
Personally I have been using Dantz backup software since probably 1989 or so and I have found it perfect for a small home lan with a few servers, a DAW and personal workstations. The latest version is still very good.
I have been messing about with a lot of different tape drives over the years, but I think the current Quantum Ultrium LTO 3 is my favorite. It is fast, reliable and the 400gig tapes can hold approx 800gigs when I turn on hardware compression.
A good one.
Tape is good both for incremental backups and full disk copies. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

it all depends on how much stuff you have to backup. I personally save downloads, applications, whatever on an external hard disk. Once I gather enough stuff to fill up a DVD I burn one and empty the HD but it takes me more than one year to gather something like that. my music has been saved on another external HD with an additional copy on a rewritable DVD. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Backup? What's that?
---
Oh yeah, an iPod with anything I deem worth keeping. Otherwise I rely on a steady stream of zero-formating and clean installs to keep my machine in tip-top form.
Oh the joys of Macintosh! _________________ -- Say "&Eth;onne hit wæs hrenig weðer" |

I (now) have a Lacie DVD drive that I back up to. However I have had had problems with the internal drives before and still tend to get quite paranoid about my burnt disks fading away!
An 800g tape drive? Are you showing off??! hehe
Generally I'm quite lazy about backups and up until now my disc drives have been very reliable. (This Powerbook's drive is incredible- it just works and works!). Externally I've got a Lacie 80g external FW drive and a smaller (but still 80g) Smartdisk Firelite pocket drive- which is very handy- although the peecee doesn't like it very much
After a week or so with a PC- although I'm discovering all kinds of hidden surprises within it, Mac still has the edge.
But having iTunes installed on the PC- it's almost like being at home again
Now only if I can run Windows on iEmulator from within a Core Duo Mac?
oh yes- I can _________________ ACHTUNG!
