XP on Mac via BootCamp. NTFS or FAT32?? |
 |
|
Anyone here running a guest OS on their Macintels yet?
I'm in a bit of a dillema over whether to format for FAT32 of NTFS.
After doing a lot of questions on the Apple discussions site, I now know the difference between the two and their advantages/ disadvantages etc.
What I really need to know is if I format my partition using Boot Camp with NTFS, I can share files via a USB memory stick rather than file sharing from within the machine/ drive, which NTFS disallows if the two different OS's are on the same drive
Any suggestions folks? _________________ ACHTUNG!

I would think if your USB thumb drive isn't NTFS, but FAT16/32 instead, it'd be readable by most any OS. I guess the question would be: is 128MB enough for sharing? I don't think there's any major difference you'd feel between the two versions. Unless you made 1 partition for windows (NTFS), and 1 partition for Data/Sharing (FAT).
Linux is very close to NTFS compatibilty, so maybe MAC wouldn't be too far behind. |

I just got this rather excellent link sent to me via the Apple site;

It looks pretty cool _________________ ACHTUNG!

You could try building linux-ntfs, which aparently works on OSX. _________________ -- Say "&Eth;onne hit wæs hrenig weðer" |

i've done it now. Two partitions. One OSX, one XP. The system works great. Everyone at work went WOW! After they saw my MBP in action
I formatted my external Firelite pocket HD as FAT32 via Apple disc utility. I suppose what I really should have done is had 3 partitions; one Mac OS, one NTFS and the other FAT32- but I haven't got time right now, anyway, I'm waiting for Parallels to improve their 3D graphics acceleration capability- somewhat lacking at the moment
