seeking advice on pcb modification techniques |
 |
|
I want to make a small modification to a pcb which is already populated. I need to swap the connections to two adjacent pins on an IC. The IC is installed in an IC socket. The sections of traces available to cut and bridge are very small and having not done this kind of pcb mod before I'm very wary of making a mess of things! Does anybody know of any techniques I might use to achieve this?
Thanks in advance,
Richard |

Remove the IC, carefully straighten the two legs you are swapping and solder a short solid core wire on each one. Insert the other end of each wire into the correct hole on the IC socket. Reinsert the IC. Use wire that fits snugly in the socket for best reliability.
Of course if you ever replace the IC you will have to redo the mod, since you haven't actually fixed the PCB
Cheers,
A. |

Ah yes of course. Obvious really. I was thinking along those lines, but the old brain gears hadn't quite kicked in yet! Thank you! |
