Calling all Kaoss Padder's ! |
 |
|
I have a degenerative hand disease and I'm looking into using alternative controllers. In Reaktor, I have instruments that use an X-Y matrix, I need to control both axis's at the same time, the X and the Y, I do this now with my X-Board, assigning two knobs, but this isn't ideal and it's not very fluid. Would it be possible to send out Midi on the Kaoss Pad to control the X and Y axis's ? Or, am I right in saying that the KP will only let let you use one finger at a time to control just one axis ? This would be no good at all. I also want to be able to control Audiomulch's "Meta Screen" this is a multi dimensional "morpher" The screen is divided up into coloured areas, and you can move through them via a web of interconnecting sounds but I need to have access to this via Midi. I'm not sure if there is anything out there that will do what I want ?
Thanks,
PM. |

a.) Yes, the Kaoss Pad will put out X and Y axis using 1 finger. If you pick up your finger, it can "hold" that value, or return to a default. You are not limited to X OR Y, it does both simultaneously.
b.) Just for this feature, you can also pick up a Korg nanoPad, which also has an X-Y controller that's MIDI assignable.
c.) A Nintendo DS has some options for running homebrew software, and using it like a Kaoss Pad to control MIDI. Easy to connect it to a computer via wireless. Or get a NDSerial2 card, with some DIY work, and make a MIDI card for the nintendo. Software supported!
d.) An iPod touch or iPhone has similar programs. Also needs wireless to commmunicate with a computer. |

Thanks for the help, you've got me thinking that I'm maybe looking in the wrong direction, when you suggested the Nanopad, I immediately thought about some keyboards that have X-Y touch pads, maybe I would be better off replacing my X-Board with a keyboard that has a pad built in ?

| I think nearly all the X-Y controllers for MIDI are similar, so that's up to you if you need other controllers or audio effects as well. I know both Korg and Novation have touchpad controllers in many of their MIDI controllers. |

Well, I think the cheapest and most elegant way out of this one is to get a Korg Nanopad, there is a nice little space on the top right of my X-Board where it will fit perfectly
