noob help please! 4017 sequencer breadboard |
 |
|
can anybody please draw me up a breadboard drawing for a 4017 10 step sequencer? I'm trying to build a sequencer controlling a vactrol for sequencing some circuit bent toys. I had it working on breadboard before but it fell off my desk and now I cant get it working again. I know I must be missing something simple but its driving me mad because I just cant see it.
I already have installed my 10 steps into a case with each input running into a toggle attached to reset followed by a connection split into a diode with a pot and an led with a resistor, so what I am asking for is how to wire the reset, clock and clock enable pins. at the moment I have it wired like the original baby 10 magazine article but it sticks on the first step. I know the steps are wired correctly as when I had these connected by croc clips to my original breadboard circuit it was working.
I have built a clock using both a 555 and schmitt trigger, either pulse an led sucessfully and the schmitt triggered my working breadboard design successfully the first time. I have replaced the 4017 in case I screwed up something using an incorrect voltage or something. I have used either a 9v battery, variable voltage transformer with 5-12v and my bench 0-15v power supply so I dont think its power either, so im assuming its got to be clock enable or reset im getting wrong. Please help! thanks |

Try lifting the reset completely and see if it changes behavior. Then connect the reset to the step 5 output and see what happens. |

Ground the enable pin and make sure your reset is either directly wired to a step/some reset source, or otherwise ground it/use a resistor (any value 10k-100k will work) from it to ground. |

well then I definately had it wired right. reset and clk/e are grounded thru 50k resistors. I also tried with nothing on reset. I even tried with a mechanical switch tied to +ve but it does nothing, just a constant high state on output 0. before if things were not wired correctly it would behave erracticly but its just a constant single led now.
So i'm glad i'm not being stupid but even more confused than before! |

well, I replaced the chip for a third time, worked a charm. I must have fried the chip at some point I guess. thanks for clarifying things for me, cheers |
