Hi

Is there any tests or government certification required for selling lo-fi / amateur synthesizers? What standards do they have to meet?

What about patenting an electronics musical instrument design in United States or Canada?
Is there a rough cost or company/website with free quotes?

Thank you

You may need to look into certification if you build your own power supplies. If you use a modular power supply or an external one that is already certified, then no.

I don't really know, but a lot more than you may think. Figure at least $10,000. You're not going to find a lot of support for the patent system among DIY enthusiasts, that's for sure. Patents are an impediment to innovation that are not actually necessary to have a successful small business. Their main use nowadays is as bargaining chips in power struggles between large corporations.

right on Thank you

So i'm guessing a 9 volt battery powered product requires no certification.

what about product liability insurance?

Well at least where I live, in Chicago, that's only required at the local level, when it's required at all. So for a Canadian business I really have no idea. Good luck!
