As stated above already, yes ... but ... note ... that you can not then tie the address bits A0 .. A2 all to ground for additional MCP23017s - they will need different addresses to be set.

That ...

That web page has a nice circuit for the I2C level shifting. You wouldn't need the resistors on the Raspberry side (the board already has them) so you'd just need the two transistors and two resistor ...

Well, you still have the same issue of driving a chip running at 5V with a 3.3V logic signal. The 23017 doesn't resolve that any more than a nand gate does. It's great for adding more I/O's if you n ...

I think I have discovered the answer I was looking for in my previous post. I have ordered a lot more parts since then and had what I needed to make this happen.

My goal was to be able to easily ga ...

Hi cerkit! Glad someone finally showed interest on what I had wrote about the subject. Since writing I have made two significant breakthroughs in designing a simple Lunnetta video synth.

First: I ...

I find this very interesting. Did you ...

I'm a little late to the party so I haven't read the whole thread in detail, sorry if I missed something, but in your latest schematic, why the 5V instead of just putting everything on 3.3V?

Why is ...

Where would the resistors go on Q1 and Q2? Also, if I switch Q1 to a 5v supply, what's the best way to protect P1Pin07 from the 5v?.

The transistors have a fixed voltage drop from base to emitter, ...

You could drive the LED straight from that gate's output if you increase the resistor
value a bit and if you really need 3.3V to drive something else you could just add a voltage divider to the outpu ...

The output will be either high (Vcc) or low (0V/GND) it will not ...

Thanks for the assistance. I just happened to have a 4093 on hand, so I hooked it up based on your suggestion.

However, I'm still using the 40106 as the oscillator and the 4093 as a simple gate.

Consider a scenario:

* Microcontroller (Raspberry Pi in this case)
* Oscillator output (in this case it's just a simple 40106 single oscillator)
* Transistor
* Trigger signal (from GPIO pins of ...

This is an interesting topic. As a person who has been interested in electronic music since the late 70's, I have never even heard of Muff Wiggler. Just the name alone comes across a little silly.
