Isn't latency (compensation) a huge drawback of online audio jamming?

With latency ranging from 10ms to .5s depending on distance, network quality and whatnot that's a lot of music that can go awry ...

and seeing that Firefox is able to play the file, the Mime-type seems to be output properly... I checked my default plugins and that is still on Winamp, as it has been forever...
