reason (2.0 and higher) |
 |
|
hello! i'm still using the 1.1 version of reason due to lack of time to upgrade. has any one used it? how does the new synth sound? is the new sampler module much more advanced? sorry for the generality of the questions. any feedback will be appreciated. oh yes, has there been an upgrade to send midi note and cc messages to external instruments/modules? |

One of the members here, Bassbike, actually my neigbor across the street here ( and a bass player in the local symphonic orchestra ) is using Reason 2. Hmm... you could try to message him? I have heard some stuff he has done in Reason 2 and it does sound very good to me. |

Reason 2.0 is definately worth the upgrade. With two samplers available you have more control over your CPU useage. I.E. - for simple stuff you use the "light weight" sampler and for the more involved sounds you can use the "heavy weight" sampler. I don't use the samplers that much - mostly stock sounds, so I can't comment on ease of creating patches with them. I have been playing with the malstrom synth and it is pretty cool. ver. 2.5 will be coming out within the next few weeks and all current ver. 2 owners get a free update to it. Propellerheads also had a neat deal worked out with Primesounds around Christmas - 100meg worth of free samples for registered Reason users. there are still a few issues that I wish they would take care of - allowing the internal sequencer to send midi outside of Reason, the ability to load VSTi's and dxi's would be nice... Well, enough here - this should go to the soft synth forum.... My advice - get it! |

Both platforms are good - just different. I have all PC's for now - I am planning on adding a MAC down the line mostly for handling customers graphics that come into the shop that were done on Mac's originally. I have been working on/with PC's since the IBM PC Jr.! I guess I am kind of comfortable with them. I also do Midi setups/configurations on Mac's once in a while (mostly at school music labs...) I really wish the AMIGA had not gone the way of the dinosaur - it would have been interesting to see what it would be like now. I used to have an Amiga 1000 - what a killer game machine! It took years before the PC's were able to come close to what it could do! In fact - a lot of the cruise ships that I would go on to work on their communications gear had Amiga 1000 and 2000's in their shipboard video studios for producing shows for the ships' closed circuit TV systems. |

Smart. ... shop? You work at some grafix house or something?
I still think I have an Osborne, a Commodore and a Z80 somewhere. They were fun. And the later Amiga models were very good. I remember those. I guess the software suite Scala was quite popular on the Amiga platform. Does that ring a bell? |
