Hello all,

I have been experiencing some difficulty with Sonar Pro 6 and drop outs. I just bought a 1 Gb stick of RAM, but my system is only a 1.2 GHz processor. I figured I could get the RAM and that would solve my problems. It did make some improvements.

While recording 24-bit tracks, I noticed that my disk write bar at the bottom right of the screen would max out and overload, causing a drop out. I read some information in the program, and discovered something called latency. Up to this point I had never heard of it.

I changed the mixing latency around from 150 ms to 100 ms, and experienced drop out. Then, I read on the net a post to optimize sonar and said that unless you are recording real time, you can adjust the latency as high as you want, and will take out pops and drop outs.

So I adjusted the latency to 340 ms, figuring that this would correct the problem. Not so, however.

My general question is: it this a hardware issue of just the settings of Sonar?

Thanks Very Happy

1.2 is a little low. But I was able to make music on the laptop I use now, which is only a 1.6 ghz with cubase.

Here's a nifty website.

It'll give you a bunch of ideas on how to tweak your computer. Take its cautions very seriously! You don't want to screw anything up you can't fix.
