Actually... with a US recession, it should be even cheaper for Carlo to fly over here and buy instruments than it was for the other Italian guy (he bought a couple of bass guitars). Euro continues to up on the Dollar to ever greater heights.

Well, I don't know about Italy, but I live in Mexico, neighbor to the U.S. There are no Clavia distributors here, so I ordered the G2 Bundle from NovaMusik; that is: Nord G2 + expansion board + gig bag + gooseneck mic + Waldorf Edition plugin pack. The price was $1800, which IMO is a good deal (separately, all those things would cost around $2250). But then I had to pay $400 for shipping and importing duties.

Basically, I paid what an US citizen would have paid if he had bought everything separately, so it was still a decent deal, but most of the time, shipping and importing costs are deal-killers.

I haven't bought stuff from ebay yet, but I plan to do it soon. I've been looking for a Korg ER-1 in the second hand market and they oscillate around $250-$300. I could get one from e-bay for around $100-$150 and pay an extra $50-$60 for S&H and importing, and still get it cheaper than here.

fac,

I too on the other side of the USA border. Albeit the colder one Smile

this looks like a wise investment.

It is nice to see the prices be nice for me for once. I know the cost of this is quite complex and painful, but it makes me get gear lust more than before.

i have a x0xb0x in the queue, and the blofeld sure looks interesting, but I have a waldorf xt, and it is NICE. i don't need more gear, I need to use it better Wink

But I digress, an expanded G2 keyboard with gooseneck mike, and waldorf edition to boot is a good solutions. Especially considering you can tweak you waldorf vsti's from your G2 Wink

peace. it is the opposite of anger.

I was actually shopping for the Engine. I have a small analog synthesizers.com modular, and also had a micromodular. I'm a sucker for modular synths and I just had a big salary raise, so I was looking for something for my own Xmas present Smile

At first, I thought about building a rack of Blacet stuff, nothing too big, just 4 or 5 modules. Blacet makes a few esoteric stuff, which would have contrasted well with the synthesizers.com more classic-style modules. Then I saw a Nord Modular keyboard (G1) in the ads, and I remembered how much I loved my micro, which I used in almost every song. Except that for the price of that G1, I could buy a G2 Engine. So one thing lead to another and suddenly I was browsing through NovaMusik and noticed the G2 bundle. It was way off my budget, but maybe if I sold a few synths I didn't use anymore... I guess you know what I mean. Before I did anything else, I ordered the G2 bundle.... most expensive impulse buy I've ever dared to do.

I ended up selling my Rhodes (beautiful sound, but I didn't play it that often and took lots of space), a couple of rack samplers which were only gathering dust, a Yamaha DX-200, and the micromodular. I would have kept the micro but I needed to recoup some cash to pay the credit card Smile

Anyway, it was the best decision. The gear I sold was not being used. Except for the micro, but I didn't see myself using it much after I got the G2.

Now I'm building my second .com cabinet. I also want to add a Mobius sequencer to my setup, so I can run everything in sync: dotcom, G2, and a couple drum machines. No computer involved (except for programming the G2).

The Waldorf VSTi's? I've barely touched them.... or any other softsynth. I had just bought the G-Force FutureRetro pack (Minimonsta, impOscar, Oddity, and M-tron), and haven't really used them. The G2 killed any interest in softsynths..... for now, at least.

The waldorf gear has amazing filters. I bought a waldorf XT last year and just love it.

You'll discover that the G2 filters are solid, but don't have the quite the rich character as those from other manufacturers. There are bunch of threads on this topic here.

I have an XT as well. I've used D-Pole before and I love it. Attack sounds great, and PPG Wave 2.V hasn't really impressed me so far. In general, it's a good bundle. I hope to get more in depth with Attack, eventually.

The XT is an amazing synth, but I don't use it as much as I'd like to... too many synths for my own good. I also have two Korg MS2000R's (one of them packed and stored in a closet); it's one of my favorite synths. Right now I'm trying to exchange one of them (plus some cash) for an MS-10. Man, I really have to quit buying stuff and start making more music.

Here's a video I just recorded in my studio:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG4QD8HCMWw

It's a bit minimalist, but the main protagonist is the G2.

Ok, back to topic. I wish Clavia could add some "visual feedback" modules to the editor, like a VU-meter. So far, the only way I've found to check the actual values of a control signal is by using the ADC module.

Well, it's the news that Vista is going to get support that persuaded me to buy a 2nd hand G2 (off someone on this very forum as it goes).

Fingers crossed it gets a proper release soon!

It's an Emu MP-7 Command Station. It doesn't contribute much to the sounds, but it drives everything else.

very pleased that this update is occurring (and am, in fact currently using the beta for OSX happily with very little problems). something i would just like to voice that i haven't heard mentioned here is that it would be marvelous if the 'demo' software is updated along with the editor. i'm sure i'm not alone amongst G2 owners/users who use the 'demo' software as a mobile platform to sketch out ideas away from the mothership. it's sooooo very useful to know how your sketch-patches will sound (even if only monophonic), and in fact, i've gotten more mileage out of the 'demo' since i've owned my G2 than before i owned.

i don't know how trivial (or not) updating the demo alongside the editor would be, but i imagine (at least in the mac world) the demo would be benefit greatly from not having to run in Rosetta.

i know the demo was produced to lure new customers in, and i definitely used it to acquaint myself with the platform for years before actually getting my G2, but it stands for me as a very useful (but CPU-challenged) tool alongside the hardware on my laptop - in the subway - in the woods, etc.

again, very happy we are getting this update at all! but just wanted to add this bit i've been biting my tongue on...

Had not tested it yet, but the demo runs under vista32. When it wouldn't I'd miss it as well sooner or later .. my only soft synth Laughing

Speaking of the demo, I'd pay money for a version that could take in sound via the input modules and with the midi modules enabled. A G2 demo VST would be so useful.

That'd be super helpful to me. I do a lot of audio processing, so it'd be nice to take my laptop to work with some loops of my audio, and tune in the G2 patches.

Hear, hear! I actually think that a softsynthed G2 could be an incredible success with its intuitive GUI and stuff. I know there are others here who don't believe that though.

If you email Clavia they will send you a beta version. I haven't used it a huge amount but for me it is very stable.

Cheers

Hi, does anybody have any more news on the Vista drivers/editor? I emailed Clavia about taking part in the beta program, but never had a response. Sad I've just asked again via their technical support, so fingers crossed......

After the problem I had with my G2 (going into OS update mode), I want to get all the necessaries onto a Vista laptop just in case it happens when I'm at a gig.

Creating a dual boot Vista/XP system on my laptop seems more trouble than it's worth and possibly not even possible...... I don't want to wipe Vista from the laptop, as I also use it as a test machine to check out the software I write on Vista (I still won't let it anywhere near my desktop machines!)
