MicroNord USB Mod |
 |
|
Hi,
I've modded my micromodular with a USB-MIDI circuit I built. It's actually just the first try at a mod I want to do. This one just puts a USB MIDI board connected to the PC midi ports into the Nord. I'm not very skilled at crafts so my USB connector is a bit off, but it works nicely. As I have written the software on the MIDI circuit, I can actually send custom Nord editor messages to the Nord, for example to switch Key Scale modules or stuf flike that. So the second version of this mod will feature a triple midi interface connecting to both PC and MIDI ports of the nord, which will "filter" the inputs on the MIDI side (so you can still connect a sequencer to the MIDI ports), and for example switch sequences on a NOTE event, or make custom patch groups, etc... I already have the circuit working, but I need to make a smaller board to fit into the nord.
You can see pictures here:

Hey Wesen- that's cool!
Any more info on the circuit? _________________ ACHTUNG!

It's a board with atmega8 and PDIUSBD12, and that's about it. On the photos you can see the pdiusbd12, the atmega8 is on the other side.
I can't really release the software though. To make you all lust for the triple MIDI version, it can also do MIDI Clock sync for the NM1 |

| I'm developing the software commercially. I could provide flashed boards though. I'll look into this. I'm really not comfortable with modding other people's gear though, being the clumsy hacker I am. |

I'm quite at home (ie qualified) in doing my own soldering you know
It's the one thing right now that puts me off plugging in my Micro (more to do with finding a midi lead that works!!). A little kit like this would be spot on.
You know we have a comprehensive DIY section here? I'm sure that there would be many who would purchase from you too, Because it would be easy to rack a MM and use it within an existing analogue modular section as a highly versatile module (which it is- and greatly underrated too )

| Yes nice I see what I'll can do. The "simple" boards are ready, I'll order a few next week and solder the chips on and send them to people who want for a little bit of money to cover costs. |

yes, agree ! absolutely underrated.
I only use my NM1 as that versatile module for my anlaog modular.
Allways as a midi to trigger converter,
or gate sequenzer,
sometimes as a multi VCO source.
And sometimes as an VCA/Envelope combination with that cool Velocity response, but then with that loss on the bottom end which the clavia modulars have

Waht does this mean exactly ?
i would need midiclock sync for the LFOs |

Actually the list of possibilities is huge! It could also be really easy to program Cynthia's Zero Oscillator into the Micro too.
I've also got 5+ note polyphony with FM to boot from it also _________________ ACHTUNG!

Oh yes, you know that Midi sync on the LFO's IS possible you know. Someone figured that out- I remember. _________________ ACHTUNG!

I wouldn't give up though, because the work around still requires extra patch load. Having some hardware to do this and adding usb will be very cool you know _________________ ACHTUNG!

I recently bought a microcontroller board kit, but I haven't used a soldering iron in so long, I've really gotten rusty. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |
