I'm having lots of fun building the synths and other DIY projects available from Ray Wilson and the other affiliates of this site, but are there any audio DIY sites that deal with things like compressors, EQs etc. that I could build for my studio? A sort of Music From Outer Space for analogue mixing boards and microphones? I've had a look on Google, but I haven't come across anything yet...

The Gyraf Audio site has amazing DIY projects based on classic equipment. Last time I checked there were PCBs available for the SSL compressor.

Great - thanks very much for those suggestions!

One of the reasons I started DIY synth building was because if you put the time and effort in, you can end up with amazing analogue synths at a fraction of the price; I guess I also want to apply that to studio equipment too.

Ýou´re right. The MFOS kits may be cheap and easy to build but from the schematics you can see how they pretty much follow the standards, right? So they deserve the best outboard equipment you can get, just like any commercial synth or the higher-end DIY stuff.

I added this page to my favourites some time ago:
http://www.nrgrecording.de/diy.html

It´s all DIY. No schematics, but nice "how-to", inspiring pics of gear. They´re connected to Gyraf anyway.

i also really like http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/

as there is often discussion of other effects like delay, phaser, eq, compression, distortion, etc and there are literally thousands of members and over 60,000 posts to search through. (you must register to be able to search)

often the conversations are extremely exhaustive and like this forum, there are many experts in their field willing to help.

i highly recommend it! plus many of the EM people are over there as well.
