The courier pays the VAT and any other import taxes, to the German customs, when the shipment arrives in the country and then charges these amounts on to you. You pay the courier on delivery / collection; most couriers should accept a cheque, or allow you to pay by card over the telephone.
Warning: Many couriers (including some postal services) add a surcharge for the "inconvenience" of having to deal with customs. I got whacked by the Royal Mail in the UK the other week, with an £8 "International Handling Charge" on a Jaycar theremin kit from Australia - thus adding 66.666% to the cost of shipping and 20% to the total cost of purchase.
I was less than pleased
You will need to find out what courier Paia use and then check with that courier, as to what the additional handling charges might be. |

Importing stuff from the states .. Subject description: We can help .. |

As it is our job to import things we know how it works. There is the customs havin the job to clear all imports such as musical instruments without claviatur. This is 3,7% tax. If there is a shipment coming from the states and they can not understand if its a weapon or a cat, they will give it to an extra department where you will be invited to pick the package up. Usually it is at the other end of your town and you will get an invitation a week after it got there. Then you go there and will have to open up the carton, then you declare what it is and in the end you pay 3,7% on the total value including shipment and on this all together value .. you pay 19% VAT. then you can take it home.

The easier way would be ordering it in the Netherlands where the thereminist and effect specialist Wilco Botermans has a small online shop http://www.theremin.nl
Since he is actually reworking his website, the Paia Theremax might not appear there temporarily, so you might send him an Email or call him. Out of Dutch, he understands German and speaks English. |
