To clarify what that is based on its description, it just produces a string drone tone and you can choose the tuning of the harmonics. You can't play it via MIDI or via an onscreen keyboard or anything like that, it just plays a sound. |

BTW what does this iPhone thing costs? You can buy a real one for € 20.- or, after some talking with the shop owner, for € 15.- At least, over here in The Netherlands.

Carlo, you'll need one hand to play one, so 2 looks enough to me
Over here in The Hague we have a large Surinam Hindu community, so Indian instruments, like the sitar and the tampura, are available. There are about 6 shops which sell those instruments.
Not all of them are that cheap, but the ones I use in my school have only 8 tones to them, so regarding my budget in reach. Electronic ones are much more expensive, but to the performing artist they are in practise much cheaper, because one doesn't need an extra player Anyway, every child can produce some 'music' with it, so the three I use are very popular to the children: 'Can I play the organ today?'

Yes of course, I was explaining what it does in case there is anyone who do not know what a sruti box is. Because the thread title is "microtonal application", I wanted to clarify for people that what it does is simply produce a single drone tone and the control you have is over selecting the tuning of the components of the drone, you can't play different notes on a keyboard or play it via MIDI, or sequence or record, or any such thing. |
