I dont have one yet. and in fact i might want someone else to take over the layout over in the layout factory. BUT what i am trying to determine is if anyone would be interested.

this would be a pcb of ONLY the tracking and FREAK SECTION.

which would be something like this for controls

1. sensitivity
2. FREAK
3. freak on off switch
4. slur
5. slur switch
6. choke
7. choke switch

8. rotary switch for INTERVAL
9. rotary switch for OCTAVE

now, if i wanted this to be simple, i would need to just have an INPUT for your own gate. (the gate is necessary to activate the auto SUSTAIN feature)...however it is possible this could be included.

but some people might PREFER to use their own AUDIO to gate converter (all it is is a circuit that puts out a gate based on the incoming signal)

this gate drives a 4016 which turns sustain ON OR OFF

also...if there is an internal mixer on the pcb (which there might not be)

there would be a mix for INTERVAL/OCTAVE and PLAY OVER HOLD (which allows you to play an octave down ON top of something that is HOLDING forever)

THE FREAK section, messes up the way the 4046 tracks.

if there is no interest, that is OK. but i am just trying to test the waters.

thanks

I'm interested, but I'd like to know more about the circuit. I'll read through the first post.

Very interested! And would love to see the shematic too! Good work Dan....

i will be attempting to redraw the schematic sometime soon (but not too soon as my wife is literally due in a week or two and i have to clean up the mess the ark left!)

and also..someone had asked for a block diagram so i will try to do that too.

i think the best way to do this would either be press n peel OR maybe the layout factory. i am a novice at pcb layout and i am terribly disorganized so i would NEVER want to have lots of people sending me money for a pcb. i think i would lose somebody's adress, etc.

SO i think very soon i will post what i have of the tracking section, and we can go from there!

this will be somewhat advanced project as you will need to provide at the least a MIXER for the DRY/octave/interval sections. and most likely, we will want to use an OFF board Audio to gate converter.

that way, people can use whatever gate system they want to trigger the sustain

(the sustain system was barely used at all in the video. so some people might not even want to bother with it)

really it is a pretty simple circuit BUT may need tweaking depending on the way YOU play guitar.

I'd be interested to have a look at the schematic.
From the video you posted it sounds like it tracks pretty good, nice work Smile

i need to redraw the schematic.

it seems to be confusing more people than helping. let me take some time to make it more clear.

also, let me ask

is the sustain function something most of you would want? (basically a HOLD)

or are you ONLY Interested in the tracking?

I'm interested, Dan.
Not so much the Hold feature though....

not so much SUSTAIN or hold? there are 2 modes. sustain just holds till next note. HOLD goes on forever

Im totally interested in this, I love the ESP on my MS20 but it looks like maybe your tracking has improved on it a good bit.

Also I would be willing to take a crack at doing a circuit layout for it. But it may be better for somebody more at home with PnP and one sided boards. If all comes to naught let me know...I love designing boards.

as i understood it, dan's circuit does not provide a CV out, since the squared audio signal syncs an internal VCO. and it does its job obviously very very good.

i am working currently on a MS20 ESP like circuit BTW (partly just an MS20 clone). hope it will be finished 2nd quarter of 2009.
however, i doubt it will track as nice at dan's audio ark.

anyways, dan: i am interested in a PCB, too. Very Happy

I'm interested to see the schematics, and i'm also interested in a PCb.
Yeah, looks as tracking works fine
I'm very interested in this project !

loss1234 has forgotten that he had the whole ark-stuff over on sdiy, so some people over here are probably clueless about what it is Wink

Hi.

The [sdiy] list is a mail-based list, but you can search through the posts here

Type audio ark in the search field, leaving the other settings on default.
It will take a while, and when the results come in, scroll to the bottom DEC 2008. There is a link to a youtube video amongst others.

cheers,
Dave

I finally had time to check out the youtube videos. I'm definately interested in a couple of these pcbs.

Do you know if it will track bass as well as guitar?

Not sure if it's the same principle, but I know most Pitch-to-Midi solutions I have experimented with in both software in hardware track bass much easier than guitar.
