NEW Composition !!!! |
 |
|
It's finally finished! Go to www.normusic.com....it's the first song, "Funker Vogl" (a parody of the name of the German EBM group "Funker Vogt").
I did several "different" things here. First, I varied the number of beats per measure, to make it "interesting".
Secondly, my sampler got QUITE a workout! The vocal samples are William Powell & Myra Loy (from a "Thin Man" movie, who talk about someone named "Vogel", who fits my description exactly!), as well as "Mr. Applegate" (from the Disney film, "Applegate Treasure").
Hope you like it! Norm

Is this a parody? I found it to be just quite how I believe EBM is expected to sound like? On the other hand, I do not own any EBM CDs and I thuink I have never heard that Funker vogt band.. so I have no real knowledge about the genre.
I listened to it on my portable so I cannot say if that much about mix and soundquality, but it did sound pretty perfect here.
The way you used the samples.. you ever heard music by Holger Czukay? There is this nice "Movies" lp from 1977 (top 15 N.M.E. critics choice). I think you would like that one. To me it seems like many EBM bands always seems to go back to Can/Czukay for inspiration whenever the music goes stale and dull. |

I dunno......... |
 |
|
What IS EBM I really don't know. I've spoken with several "in-the-know" people who toss these terms around. When it comes down to the nitty gritty, there are soooooo many different sub genres of e-music, that's it's impossible to define 'em all!!!
From what i was able to gather from these guys, one defining factor was that EBM music has vocals (morbid, usually). Funker is EBM.....mine's NOT. (I don't have the guts to try singing yet! LOL!).
I've never heard of him..........will have to check him out! I feel that samples put an "added dimension" to e-music.....who DOESN"T like those etheral, smooth, sexy female voices in e-music. Plus, it makes it more "human".
(Of course, you wouldn't use 'em if you were going for a "robotic" sound).
I like "Propellerheads" for their use of samples, but i haven't heard anything from them in a long time....does anyone know if they're still together?
By shortening some of the drum sections, and quickly switching back and forth between them, I (hope!) i've created a sort of "Latin percussion" sound.
Hope you liked the SONG!

It's like in the New York City subway: I saw once a guy with a saxophone that started making terrible noises with it, inside a car, until people paid him to leave.
Norm, is there a subway where you live? You could make a living singing and you do not need expensive lessons. If you wonder if there is a subway in Florence the answer is: NO
btw Stein: any subway along the fjords around Trondheim (maybe under water)? _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Sure.. we have this tunnel.. with a road.. out to this island..
Qualifies for a decent ranking on the "scary places" list.
Probably no big risk of being mugged by elks in there.. but..you never know. This is Norway. |

I guess a place like that one with you singing would make it even scarier (being mugged by elks is nothing compared to something like it ) _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

What's with singing??? |
 |
|
Why does everyone want me to sing??!? I don' get it. That would mean that i'd have to compose lyrics for my stuff. Bleech!
I WAS thinking about RECITING poetry, or something, as an intro...... _________________

yes .. I did! This style is not something I know about but to me this song very nice... and.-. it does .. of sorts resemble some late 70s experimental rock too. Which is just great.
OK.. what I think you have done is study a certain style in order to write in that style. And to me this sounds like proof you have handled the task just great. This one sounds far better than similar stuff I hear on the radio. No probs here.. this one is good. |

I never told you to sing.. I think you should do just the stuff you find interesting and fun. And that is actually what your music communicates very well! |

Hi, Electro! |
 |
|
I really didn't "study" anything......that's just how it "came out"!
I realise that YOU never said anything about wanting me to sing....it was the OTHER poster.
I just MIGHT do it....'ya never know.........one song i've always wanted to do is Thomas Dolby's "Airwaves", which is my fav song by him.

I listened to it . It's cool but I have to say that the one I prefer is
"Techno-Funk"
Dance
10:35
"Groove" to this upbeat, funky jazz rhythm! _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube
