Steiner Synthasystem Modular Resurrection |
 |
|
I think I can go ahead and share this now.
I am resurrecting Nyle Steiner's Synthasystem modular synthesizer. I have all the schematics from Nyle with his permission to share them. He was quite happy and liked the idea of others building his modules.
At present, I'm not quite sure how I'm going to do it. I am currently transferring all of them into Eagle and will be doing PCBs. I've already ordered several prototype PCBs, and have verified a couple of the modules.
My progress is on this blog:
http://analoguerealities.blogspot.com/
I think some modules will probably spark more interest than others, but they are all interesting at least historically.
These will be faithful reproductions, using the unbalanced +12/-10 VDC supply (although I'm pretty sure they will run on +/- 12VDC), S-Triggers, etc.
I don't know if this warrants its own sub-forum, but I will post in this thread from time to time to give updates. _________________ David M. Ingebretsen, M.S., M.E.

Steiner modules will be great, even if I don't build them all, lately, I'm learning
a lot studding schematics.
Thanks a lot. _________________ Sebo

Just wanted to say that you've got a headline that states that your website is best viewed with internet explorer. Erm, I think it looks even better in Safari!
Great site, and make sure you post some pix of your new baby! _________________ ACHTUNG!

| Big thank you, dingebre, for taking this on. Huge thank you to Mr Steiner for understanding that open sourcing his historical intellectual property in this generous way benefits the community, and can only increase the recognition given to him and his efforts. This is an explicit statement of support and belief in the analogue synth DIY community and Mr Steiner has raised the bar. Let's hope other manufacturers are motivated to follow his example. |

Cool stuff David! Thanks for taking this on - and I look forward to what you do with this...
Thanks also to Nyle!

Watch my blog to see progress. There will be several modules for which I'm doing layouts, in no particular order:
1. VCO
2. EG
3. VCF
4. Frequency Divider
4. Phase Shifter
5. Ring Modulator
6. Trigger Generator
7. 8/16 step X 3 Sequencer
8., Peak Selector
9. Keyboards
10. Selective Inverter
11. Tuner Monitor
12. VCA
13. Sample and Hold
Remember, these are Nyle Steiner's original designs, all I'm doing is the PCB layout. These modules use S-Triggers, if they take a trigger (like the EGs) and should properly be run on +12/-10 VDC although I will test them on +/- 12VDC.
They may not be compatible with other modules in other systems. At some point after the schematics are circulating, I suspect, hope, others will adapt them to be more current.
Thanks for the interest. _________________ David M. Ingebretsen, M.S., M.E.
