Alright. I'm real new to pretty much any kind of synth outside Ableton Live and had a few questions.

I just bought an old SH101, and saw some really interesting modular synth pieces online, and I was wondering if it would be possible too run directly from the out of the keyboard to the modular synth component or if some sort of conversion would be needed or if it was feasible at all.

Here are the pieces I was looking at:

Cool right?

i guess you at least need a psu and a vca....and probably an enveöope follower/modular preamp.

EDIT: do you want to control the sh101 with it or do you want the modules to be controlled by the 101??? at least regarding the pressure points module this wouldn't make that much sense.

Modulating its audio output with modular gear shouldn't be a problem. I can't find the specifications on its wave forms output, though. Most modern modulars are designed to use higher amplitude signals than old gear puts out...I suppose that's because most keyboardists don't use instrument amps anymore, but run their gear directly into mixers or auido interfaces.

Anyway, you might end up needing to run the synth through an instrument interface first to amplify its signal. But maybe not.

The 101, though, does have a 1V/Oct CV output and a Gate output at 0-10V. So, you could have teh 101 controlling modular oscillators, sequencers, envelope generators, filters, etc. as well as running the 101 through modular gear to process its audio....or have external modular gear controlling the 101.

The 101 came out in 1983 just when MIDI was first appearing, but before it was dominant. Therefore, it was built to be integrated into pre-MIDI synth systems, where modulars were kings (if a bit tarnished kings).
