Not listened/watched this yet as I am at work but love the concept.
Many questions:
Did you use patch changes and your delay pedals to hide them or was this all done in a single performance?
How long did it take you to contruct it? Or is it based on a number of older patches from your personal archive that you glued together?
Did you use a number of controllers or do most of the control direct from the screen with a mouse?
Did you actually do any patching within the performance?
It's brilliant anyway, regardless of the how and that is before I have listened to it. _________________ iP (Ross)

I build just using single slots at a time, I assign a PC+1 control to a button on my controller so that I can advance the patches during performance. I use the pedals to effectively sample bits of the performances to mask the drop when changing between patches. If I use Performances it makes for life getting a bit too complicated on screen/with the controller and I quite enjoy the limiting factor of using 1 DSP as I feel it makes me push a limited resource and get more creative.

I think this piece took me just under a couple of months to write. My pieces are concept pieces and I use them as a sort of Chaos Magic practice where each patch is a the equivalent of a word, the collected and performed piece becoming a sentence. Speaking purely metaphorically of course, each 'movement' has a specific intent or feeling behind it, even within, each element of a patch has it's significance. You could briefly look up the theory of sigils and hyper-sigils if you were so inclined. Once I'd written most of it, I went and shot and edited the video and then performed/recorded it while the video was playing back.

I've just use a Behringer BCR2000 which is cheap and nasty but flexible enough for what I need. If/when it breaks, I'll likely just buy a new one exactly the same. It makes me a little bit sad that there's no screen on the Engine as when I play live, the computer really just serves to let me check that I'm on the right patch (and the annoying lack of being able to get the snapshot send to work via a button means that I have to press apple+m so that my controller knows what all it's knobs should be sent to).
Did you actually do any patching within the performance?
No, no patching during but I build a few controllable variables within the patches and the nature of building up loops quite often makes for interesting and unplanned chains of events taking place.
Cheers for the interest.

Cool, thanks for the answers. You can get a hell of a lot out of just a 200% of the machine eh?
Anyway had a quick listen the textures are really sweet, love some of the subtle rhythmical elements you get in there too and the tonal complexities. I guess i would have liked a few more rhythmical sections but that is just my tastes, really cool project and a very complete sound. Amazing. Definitely going to download it and listen properly.
Have often thought of trying to do something similar (a set just using the nords) but never felt confident enough with the nords to actually pull it off. _________________ iP (Ross)

I'm enjoying this too. Pretty different from anything I've done with my G2. I'm listening late at night, while trying to do a job application. Zoning out quite a bit too.
Cheers mate,

Great stuff. Everytime I try to do something similar, I end up doing rhythmic stuff all over again. It's a stigma I find so hard to break from.
Nice to have some insight on how other people perform with their G2's. _________________ My music: http://cdbaby.com/all/fac |
