So I decided that with my previous 16 step U/D sequencer design I was a little too ambitious for my current building skills and decided to scale things back to making a Baby 8 (on advice from previous posts on 16 step seq posts), the one caveat being that I always want to add something a little extra to the designs already available. I've decided to use a CD4040 to add a little wierdness to the build by using it to do division of either the clock or the CV.
Clock divisions would give me a pretty solid base for maybe percussion sequencing surrounding the sequencers CV out (twin-t's?) and CV division would give me a lot more action due to the clock CV input of the 4040 progressing through the sequence. I like the idea of both, so maybe a switch to select between clock or CV division is in order?
I'm open to any other suggestions, as well. just only have a 16 pin IC socket left on the board I've already started. What does the community think? I love me some Lunetta discussion.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like you are confusing logic/gate signals with CV. Control Voltages aren't something you divide down with a logic chip like the 4040. Do you mean you want to use a 4040 to divide/count along with the gate outputs from the sequencer?

I use my Baby 10 alongside a 4040. The 4040 clock input is wired to a jack, so I can patch in either the sequencer's master clock or the sequencer's gate output (or any other gate/clock source...). Mine is in a modular system so it made more sense to use a jack, but this could just as easily be done with a toggle switch.

If you haven't done this already, I highly recommend making the 4017's reset pin available to be triggered by the 4040 output(s) of your choosing.

Add a few AND and OR gates in the mix and you'll have more sequencing combinations than you'll ever know what to do with. Very Happy
