Hi,

So, this might sound a bits nuts, but, you know, when folks get their mind set on something...!

I am attempting to recreate the patch at the bottom of this page

https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/practical-cymbal-synthesis

.. but I am not using Nord Modular; I am using Plogue Bidule (I might also try a Reaktor version if this goes well..). More specifically, I would like to hear (I can think of no other way to do this) the sound of the FM and PM functions at their maximum so I can calibrate my handmade modules to the Nord Modular range, in order to accurately recreate the cymbal patches.

Please, if you can, follow these:

- create an instance of OSCA1 and set the internal frequency to 200 hz
- create another instance of OSCA1 and set the internal frequency to 2hz
- connect the output of 2hz OSCA1 to PM1 of 200hz OSCA1
- please start recording
- slowly bring up the modulation depth of PM1 until it reaches maximum
- stop recording
- move the PM1 connection to FM of the 200hz OSCA1
- start recording
- slowly bring up the modulation depth of FM until it reaches maximum
- stop recording

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

CB Smile

Hi!

Did you tried the G2 software demo ? You can do it yourself.

Hello! Smile

I have already ventured down that path, but I have an Intel OSX machine and the software is incompatible. I understand there is also Win software but I have no windows machine!

I dearly wish i could do it for myself, it would save me having to post this request on various forums trying to get someone else to go through my laborious process just so I can calibrate, recreate, and modify this Korg cymbal patch!

I'm beginning to think I won't be able to achieve this.

The SOS patcH is for the first generation Nord Modular. They are probably not close enough if exact calibration is what you are after.

If it is any consolation, I tried working those examples years ago and from memory, the Korg variation was disappointing.

Hi Ian-s,

Yeah, I've pretty much given up being able to calibrate exactly, so I just put some numbers in and widdled until I liked the sound Smile

I realise these designs won't be anywhere close to real cymbals, but I am interested in how the innovators attempted to achieve something they were happy with, and just what sonic template is available with that particular design.

And I'm equally happy with the potential I can see with my interpretation of the design...
