Subject description: trying to wrap my head around a panning idea

Hi everyone, looking for some advice about adding a built in panning effect to a drone synth i've been helping a friend with

mk1 has 4 channels, 2 channels are for a double oscillator with coarse and fine tuning which can be switched from parallel tuning or inverted detuning, 2 channels are a single oscillator with coarse tuning.

for mk2 i thought it would be really wild to have stereo panning that is driven by the oscillators - the rising and falling LFO would take the channel from left to right, and additionally, the behaviour of the left side would affect the right and vice versa

https://youtu.be/Rav5JDRLuII

what i'm struggling to do is
a) articulate the idea properly as a whole (lol)
b) conceive of the best arrangement in terms of which oscillators waves would be most conducive to panning
c) choose a circuit which doesn't break my brain - ideally i'd like to stick to CMOS logic

i've looked at the schematics of the serge segue and the mfos mixer, which seems to be heading in the right direction - but the 4066/4017 circuit elliot williams writes about in the logic noise articles on hackaday seem to be closest to what i want to achieve in terms of using the logic output of the oscillators to drive the stereo panning.
the only issue is that i would hope there would be a slower pan depending on the frequency of the LFO, but it seems like the 4066/4017 is strictly ping pong?

thanks a lot for any advice, suggestions or directions!

I think the word "pan" in the Logic Noise article might be a bit of a stretch. That circuit just directs the signal to one channel or the other, because the 4066 is just a simple switch.

You aren't going to get smooth or gradual panning from one side to another with just that. I'm not sure logic chips could do it... I'd imagine VCAs would be a better approach. Plus with switching like this, it's likely that there will be undesirable clicks in the audio.

One fun idea Inventor came up with that gives a bit more variation (but still only 4 different levels of volume per channel) is the Lunetta spatializer, which is based on a 4051 with resistors. See this post :

I built a box called The Spatial Percussionizer, which used it in combination with another of his circuits.

Maybe you could PWM pan it at .. say a MHz or something.
