Origin is finally ready! |
 |
|
Origin finally ships this week. I did sound design on it and have to say I really am enjoying it a lot (now that it's stable).
By changing up types of oscillator and filter combinations, I have been able to mimic some of my Prophet 5's sounds to a degree that I had to check the mixer to make sure which unit I was playing from my master keyboard.
The sequencer is fun, the UI is easy to get around on and most importantly, it sounds good. It easily compares to my Prophet 5, Prophet T8, Oberheim Xpander, Andromeda in sound quality.
The weakness, the reverb is not great but I don't like most onboard reverbs.
They don't have all the templates done, only Minimoog at this time but they are working on the Jup 8 and 2600(the filters and oscillators are all there in the modular, just not the preset template).
I'll try to post some sounds when I get a chance. |

It would be nice if they could fix some of the bugs in the plugins now! |

I would like to see the sequencer Start/stop in Moog Modular V fixed but that's minor. I'd really like to see things, and this goes for all software, optimized more to use less CPU. I don't care about new features, just make what is there use less CPU. |

XpanderXT, how are the Origins oscillators performing with respect to aliasing? This question also goes for other potentially alias generating functions like e.g. waveshapers, ringmods etc...
I'm asking because Arturias previous claims of 'alias free' (in their softsynths) have been far from true. Perhaps some Origin owners could do a clinical test and post some WAV's?

I Agree cpu usage needs sorting out on OS X thats for sure, having the gui of the modular showing uses 100% of a cpu on my MacPro! |
