Analogue solutions - Any Good??!! |
 |
|
Hi
Just about to buy my first modular. After a couple of months research (i.e. spending all day on the internet looking at synths) I'm torn between Doepfer and Analogue Solutions - both offer the same basic modules for around the same cost.
Doepfer stuff is pretty well reviewed, lots of demos online, etc but can't find too many opinions on Analogue Solutions.
Does anyone have opinions on sound, build quality, customer service, etc of the Analogue Solutions modulars?
(Looking at getting 3 vco, 1 multimode MS20 style vcf, 1 moogy vcf, 2 adsr,1 or 2 lfo, 2 vca, multi, mixer, ring mod and a MID to cv/gate converter.)
Cheers

Not as good as Analogue Systems in my rather honest opinion. I've owned a Analogue Solutions minimodular- and it was very weak/ poor sounding, with very bad ranges on the controls.
I've heard to avoid sound making modules by Doepfer too. However Doepfer's logic modules are supposed to be excellent.

There is nothing wrong with the Doepfer sound sources. I have 2 each of the 110 and 111 VCOs and am very happy with them even when stacking them up against my AFG and 100m Oscillators. Some people have complained about the quality of the sine waves but again I have no complaints with them. If the sound sources were as bad as some would have you believe then I'm sure they wouldn't sell and they would be subsequently discontinued (as has happened with a number of poor selling modules in the past), after all Dieter is running a business.
Some people are a little too picky or have very high and often unreasonable expectations of their equipment. Others just like to Doepfer bash for god knows what reason.
As far as value for money goes, I find Doepfer very hard to beat given the enormous range and functionality of the modules available.
Cheers,

Thanks for the advice.
Anyone anything positive about Analogue Solutions?
I actually thought Analogue Systems were more expensive than they are....so I might go for them as I am after a bit of a 1971 sound and I understand they are better at that sort of thing.
Cheers

my Asys modularity |
 |
|
I was in a similar position a couple of months ago, looking to assemble a 9U eurorack modular. I did read quite a few criticisms of A solutions callibration and voltage response compared to Asys and Doepfer -and I wanted the best of both worlds - precision and flexible weirdness (c. 1973!) so decided against A sol and went for mostly Asys modules (with a couple of doepfer modules on order as we speak), as folks seemed to rate their VCOs a bit higher. I had heard some moans about Asys a few years ago, but all my contact was with Bob himself and turn around was as stated. Build quality seems to be great, but their cases are a bit more pricey than the doepfer basic ones. I dont know if I'll expand with Asys from now on (Doepfer have a greater range of modules), but I'm certainly pretty happy with what I've got....until stage 2 that is!!
hope this helps
