sending/receiving Midicontrol Data on NM1? Subject description: is it possible to send the poti-changes AND use them in patch ? |
 |
|
hello together,
i have a question concerning sending and receiving midi control data with my NM1 keyboard.
the manual says its not possible to use the potis for external midi control AND for a patch the sametime... is there a workaround possible ?
i want to record the changes i make with the knobs with a sequencer (logic) and use the sequencer to "finetune" them.
how can i use the envelopes in logic to draw my controller-curves ?
thank you very much in advance...
cheers from cologne...

Should be possible, right click on a knob in the patch to assign both a physical knob and a midi controller to it. Turning the knob should send CC's sending CC's to the NM should turn the knob in the patch, not the physical one of course. _________________ Jan

At the very least, you can make the knobs on the NM 1 send CC changes.
I have done this and can easily hear other synths responding.
I don't know about midi messages though. |

thank you both very much.
how can i make the knobs sending cc-data ?
then it should be possible to do both - sending the data to logic and, same time, have the synth reading and responding to this data.... right ?
and then it probably works to draw the envelopes in logic... i`ll try this. (unfortunately i left my modular in the studio yesterday...)
thanks again !

Jan already answered this
>>then it should be possible to do both - sending the data to logic and, >>same time, have the synth reading and responding to this data.... rightI don't use logic- but anything that can monitor the midi stream coming from the NM should be able to respond to the CC changes, if that device/software is configured correctly. |

oh... then i misunderstood jan`s post. i thougt he ment it the other way round - and told me how the modular (editor) is able to receive data...not send it.
sorry..
i`ll try it when i`ve got my modular back....
one other thing - do you know a place where i can find some patches maybe as a zip-file ? i`m searching for some dirty bass-synths and some special-sounding-vocoderpatches
regards...

Indeed you misunderstood, it can do both send and receive :-)
Edit :
The manual is at : http://www.clavia.se/products/manuals.htm I suggest reading Chapter 4. "Basic functions", section "Knobs and controllers' p37 .. p40 or up to p41 when you want to know about morphs as well. _________________ Jan

Most of the NM patches are here
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/010_NordModular/
There's one linked that is for a zipped file, but It may/may not included all the other patches.
However, it's a good place to start. The zipped file was 20-30MB or something like that, at one point. |

A related question:
How can I send stuff to the MIDI output on my Micro Modular?
I need to pass on the clock signal that the MM gets, to another MIDI device....
I looked at the "synth settings" and "patch settings". Couldn't find anything about the MIDI output. Nor could I find a MIDI output module....
Surely the output is there for a reason?
FYI: I am using the OSX editor.
And I want the clock signal from my Roland R-5 drum machine to be forwarded to the TD-6 V-Drums module after it has been in the Micro Modular.... (I tried to go through the V-Drums and then to the MM, but it only got clock signal when the sequencer in the TD-6 was running... so it doesn't work for me, as I need to start and stop that sequencer all the time.)
thanks |

The MIDI Out port on your Micro is for those little knobs only I would also like to see a MIDI-Out module on first Modular... |

Ah. I'll probably have to get a MIDI Through box then, right? One that has one input and a couple of outputs, so that I can have the clock signal from the drum machine fed both to the MM and the TD-6.
Thanks. |
